  • Both the Pulse and Pulse Edge headsets include AI-enhanced noise rejection in their microphones to filter background noise during voice chat.

Sony will launch its revamped PlayStation Pulse wireless headset on November 19, 2026, the same day Grand Theft Auto 6 releases worldwide.

Pre-orders for the $99.99 headset begin October 29, 2026, with U.S. customers starting at 7:00am PT through direct.playstation.com. The headset launches in White and Midnight Black through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers. A Grand Theft Auto 6-themed PlayStation 5 DualSense controller launches on the same date for $84.99 in black or white limited editions.

Sony said the standard Pulse’s expanded drivers reduce distortion and sharpen spatial accuracy across big open-world games such as Grand Theft Auto 6. The headset uses four magnets per driver to provide sound separation and directional cues including footsteps and reloads. The 2024 Pulse Elite was Sony’s first wireless headset to feature planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity.

A premium Pulse Edge model arrives in early 2027 with eight magnets per planar driver, active noise cancellation, and a detachable boom microphone. It also includes a hidden backup microphone, game and chat balance controls, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a carrying case.

Sony said both headsets include AI-enhanced noise rejection in their microphones and can connect simultaneously to a PlayStation Link device and a Bluetooth device. Both headsets rely on Sony’s PlayStation Link 2.4GHz wireless dongle for low-latency, lossless audio. The standard Pulse relies on an integrated flush microphone with no microphone jack, while the Pulse Edge adds the physical boom mic for clearer voice capture.

The company redesigned the earcups to swivel and lie flat, addressing comfort complaints about the 2024 Pulse Elite, which had large earcups that created an air pocket and did not fold for transport. Reviewers had noted the Elite’s design made it awkward to wear during extended sessions. Sony’s VP of engineering Joe Bentley said the new design focused on “lasting comfort,” with earcups that can rest on the neck between play sessions.

The Pulse Edge adds game and chat balance controls for PlayStation 5, while the standard Pulse keeps basic volume controls. Only the Edge model includes a carrying case, and only it offers a 3.5mm audio and microphone jack for wired connectivity. The structural difference targets competitive esports, with the Edge boom mic built for tournament voice capture while the standard model suits everyday console gaming and portable travel.

Both headsets come in White and Midnight Black and work with PlayStation 5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac through Sony’s PlayStation Link 2.4GHz wireless dongle, which provides lossless, low-latency audio. Bluetooth connectivity also supports mobile phones and handheld systems including Steam Deck and ROG Ally. The headset uses universal USB-C charging and works with all Asian-region PlayStation 5 hardware models, including CFI series and PS5 Pro systems, without regional firmware restrictions.

Sony will sell the headset in more than two dozen countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and numerous European and Middle Eastern nations. European pre-orders start at 10:00am local time on October 29, 2026, in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

The $99.99 price sits $50 below the 2024 Pulse Elite, which launched at $150 with a USB PlayStation Link dongle and charging stand that do not come with the new Pulse. The standard Pulse also lacks the Elite’s boom microphone. Sony’s multi-tiered strategy segments the standard Pulse for mainstream adoption and the Edge tier for dedicated gamers at an elevated price point.

The headset uses universal USB-C charging and connects to PC, Steam Deck, and ROG Ally handhelds through Bluetooth. ROCKSTARmedia Network estimated Malaysian import prices at approximately RM450 as a baseline, with landed costs between RM480 and RM530. Gizmodo reported that Sony’s Inzone PC brand competes with PlayStation audio products. Sony said it is not releasing a replacement for the Pulse Explore earbuds in this generation.

Sony launched its first PlayStation-branded monitor in September 2026, featuring a DualSense controller charging hook and PlayStation Link compatibility through a USB-B to USB-A cable connection. The monitor arrived one month before headset pre-orders began. The PlayStation Link 2.4GHz wireless dongle will be compatible with the upcoming FlexStrike fight stick.

Sony had not disclosed battery-life figures for either the Pulse or Pulse Edge headset as of the September 16, 2026, announcement. The company said it would share more updates on the Pulse Edge when it launches in early 2027.
