Steam users on PC ran into a persistent loading user data screen on October 26, 2026, that blocked desktop client login while Steam stayed reachable through web browsers.

The outage hit only some players rather than everyone, and how many were affected remained unclear on October 26, 2026. On Steam Deck and PC, players were locked out of their libraries and could not launch games during the October 26, 2026 outage. On X, players complained about an endless loading loop and said troubleshooting had failed, with some missing chances to play Nightreign and Cyberpunk.

On October 26, 2026, the desktop client had problems while the Steam store and Community pages stayed online. PC Guide’s UK team had no trouble logging into Steam, using libraries, browsing the store, or reading Community forums on October 26, 2026. Steamstat.us and other unofficial Steam Status trackers reported high load in some regions during the October 26, 2026 outage, while other regions had recovered. Steam APIs for Counter-Strike, TF2, Dota 2, and Deadlock kept working normally during the outage.

Valve had not said what caused the October 26, 2026 outage, and it had not issued a public statement on the problem. A week before October 26, 2026, users were already reporting the problem, which had also appeared years earlier and tends to come and go. In a 2025 Steam Community post, user smurftomx described an endless loading circle at Steam Client login starting October 3rd, 2025 around 19:00–21:00 CET, even though browser login and creating a new account still worked.

Some players got past the stuck screen by taking a game demo off the licenses page in a web browser, but the step did not help everyone on October 26, 2026. Players were best served by waiting on Valve to fix the client, since similar past issues tended to clear up within hours or a day.
