On Oct. 16, 2026, CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the studio’s live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film will feature an original story set in Night City, not a direct adaptation of the game.
The film, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura under Paramount Pictures (now part of Skydance after its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery), will be overseen by Di Bonaventura, known for producing Transformers and G.I. Joe. CD Projekt Red cited Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022) as proof that the franchise’s universe supports original storytelling, noting its success in driving game sales.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, with its Phantom Liberty expansion adding another 15 million copies. The film’s original storyline will diverge from the game’s core plot.
Beyond the Cyberpunk film, Paramount is developing live-action adaptations of gaming franchises, including Street Fighter (in partnership with Legendary) and Call of Duty (directed by Peter Berg). CD Projekt Red is expanding its creative ambitions beyond adaptations, having begun Project Hadar, its first original universe game.
