Key facts
- Only the 19 November 2026 launch date is confirmed by Rockstar; the embargo date and review-code rollout remain unconfirmed.
- Rockstar's prior embargo practice for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 was to publish reviews one day before launch.
- Journalists and content creators thanked Rockstar Games on social media for GTA 6 review copies and said their reviews would drop on November 18, 2026.
- GTA 6 returns to Vice City with dual protagonists Jason and Lucia, the first mainline Grand Theft Auto release in 13 years after Grand Theft Auto 5's 2013 debut.
NateTheHate said on Oct. 26, 2026 at 4pm UK time that Rockstar was delivering Grand Theft Auto 6 review copies to media outlets ahead of a Nov. 18, 2026 embargo.
The embargo would lift one day before Rockstar’s confirmed Nov. 19, 2026 launch date. Rockstar has not announced the embargo date, leaving the timeline unconfirmed. For Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar published reviews one day before launch.
Review copies reportedly began going out in late October 2026, giving outlets about three to four weeks with the game before the embargo lifts. The late-October rollout would give critics more than two weeks with the title. On social media, journalists and content creators thanked Rockstar Games for the review copies and said their reviews would drop on Nov. 18, 2026. Rockstar has not commented on either the code distribution or the embargo date.
Buyers could read early critical verdicts before pre-orders turn into launch-day downloads if the Nov. 18 embargo holds. In India, the Standard Edition costs Rs. 5,999 and the Ultimate Edition costs Rs. 7,499.
Both pre-order editions come with the Vintage Vice City Pack plus one month of GTA+. That choice matters to players weighing the Standard and Ultimate editions.
The early review window, if real, would suggest Rockstar is confident enough to let critics publish before launch day. The game is the most hyped title of the decade, and reviews give insight to players still debating pre-orders despite not heavily affecting success.
Publishers follow no single embargo standard; some share copies a month or more ahead, while others send it out Friday evening for a Monday release. Rockstar could grant many outlets access weeks ahead or limit early copies to one or two outlets to prevent leaks. Rockstar might decide reviews offer little value if sales reach tens of millions regardless. Polygon noted that Rockstar is an unusual company, meaning typical industry rules may not apply to GTA 6.

Rockstar’s GTA 6 marketing has stayed secretive and selective, with previews for IGN, Game Informer, The New York Times, Dazed, and YouTube and Twitch creators. Reports have not said YouTubers received GTA 6 review code; NateTheHate’s post pointed to media outlets alone, while later accounts added creators without sourcing them.
Jason and Lucia star in GTA 6 as it returns to Vice City, the first mainline Grand Theft Auto entry in 13 years following Grand Theft Auto 5’s 2013 launch. The game takes place in Leonida, a massive and content-rich map that reviewers likely will not fully explore before release. That limitation may prevent spoilers for players waiting for launch day. It supports repeat playthroughs and contains more than 170 unique animal species.
To date, Rockstar has confirmed only a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X release for GTA 6. Because the game is digital-only, console owners may have to free up storage, potentially reaching or exceeding 200 GB. PC gamers face a longer wait based on Rockstar’s past port track record: GTA 5 reached PC about 19 months after consoles, and Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived over a year after its PS4 and Xbox One launch. A PC version of GTA 6 could arrive as soon as late 2027, though early 2028 looks more likely.
In a September 17 Bloomberg interview, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said GTA 6’s online multiplayer will arrive in 2027, though Rockstar has not confirmed that timing.
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar still earn significant money from GTA Online, and the online multiplayer component of GTA 6 is expected in 2027, though Rockstar has not confirmed or denied the timing. GTA VI will unlock first in New Zealand, and spoilers may surface online from there before release.
Because Rockstar has not announced the rollout or embargo, the timeline could still change. The insider has a strong record on GTA 6 timing, though he is not always right; on Oct. 15 he said review copies had not gone out yet but would arrive before the end of October. ResetEra user BlackBate named Nov. 18 as the embargo date on Oct. 23, 2026 and said codes were due the week of Oct. 26 or early November, while Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe claimed in May that critics would play at a supervised event instead of receiving keys. iGrandTheftAuto and shinobi602 repeated the claim within minutes while crediting NateTheHate, and Insider Gaming later said it had independently verified the Nov. 18 date.
