Look Outside launched on October 30, 2026, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, moving from PC to consoles. Publisher Devolver Digital announced the four platforms and the October 30 date in a social media post on October 23, 2026. The launch marks the game’s debut on PlayStation systems. The October 30 release places the game the night before Halloween, capitalizing on the spooky season.

Francis Coulombe developed the game, and Devolver Digital published it. It first launched on PC via Steam on March 21, 2025, where it earned an Overwhelmingly Positive rating with a 98% approval score and more than 14,000 user reviews. The console versions cost $9.99 each, matching the Steam price. The PC debut established the game’s reputation as one of the highest-rated indie horror games of recent years.

Look Outside is a pixel art survival horror RPG set entirely inside a single apartment building. The confined setting eliminates the need for a sprawling world, with the apartment building serving as both safe haven and dangerous exploration zone. A mysterious event transforms anyone who looks out a window into a grotesque monster, forcing players to remain indoors throughout the game. This central mechanic shapes all gameplay, as players must navigate the apartment building without ever looking outside.

Players explore the building to scavenge for food, supplies, and weapons while encountering strange characters and fighting horrifying creatures that were once their neighbors. The game challenges players to survive for 15 in-game days within the building.

Combat is turn-based and takes space into account, with distance between the player and an enemy influencing which weapons or items can be used. The system requires players to consider positioning when choosing makeshift weapons and items gathered from building corridors. The game features more than 150 handcrafted creatures and approximately a dozen boss encounters. Players gather improvised weapons from building corridors.

Between expeditions, players return to their apartment to recover, prepare meals, craft tools, and spend time with allies they have found. Players can recruit some of the odder residents and give them shelter in the player’s apartment as the mystery unfolds, adding a strategic layer to survival.

The console versions launch with the ‘Final Vision’ 2.0 content update already integrated, which originally released for PC in late 2025. The game offers approximately 10 to 12 hours of gameplay with different endings, offering different experiences for every player as they work toward uncovering those endings. The 2.3 update arrived in April 2026; it changed how the Mutt fight works, added new moves to certain weapons, cleaned up ending cutscenes, and dropped extra surprises into Cursed Mode. Devolver Digital has not detailed whether every PC update will be present on the console version at day one.

Critics have described Look Outside as “one of the scariest games I’ve ever played,” “disturbing, grotesque, and uncomfortably wonderful,” and “an unforgettable journey into the unknown.” These descriptions come from reviews published around the PC launch and were highlighted in the console announcement materials. RPG Site named the game one of the top 5 RPGs of 2025. The game features a distinctive body-horror visual style that distinguishes it from more conventional action-oriented horror games, with grotesque creature designs and an unsettling atmosphere.

A console launch trailer was released by Devolver Digital alongside the launch.

Devolver Digital has a history of bringing quirky indie releases across platforms, including the pachinko roguelite HYPERDROP. PC has long served as the premiere platform for independent games to reach new fans, with early Steam success often enabling smaller developers to port games to consoles. Recent years have seen a notable uptick in indie games releasing on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, with players consistently appreciating non-AAA titles going multiplatform. Devolver Digital has not announced an Xbox version of Look Outside.

Fans who have played Look Outside on PC are already celebrating the console release, and the Halloween release timing aligns with peak horror consumption during the holiday period.

The game’s story unfolds through exploration and interactions with the building’s residents. Look Outside was first conceived as an entry for the ‘Hawktober’ game jam before Devolver Digital picked it up for a full commercial launch.
