Eidos-Montréal releases Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo Everything’s comparison shows the port’s Quality Mode can struggle to reach its 30 frames-per-second cap even without heavy combat, and Performance Mode can dip into the 30s.

On TV, Quality Mode targets 1440p at 30 frames per second, while Performance Mode targets 1080p at 40 frames per second. The edition is exclusive to Switch 2.

In handheld mode, the Switch 2 version targets 30 frames per second. The port supports the console’s docked variable refresh rate feature, which matches the display’s refresh rate to the game’s output. The system offers TV mode, table mode, and handheld mode.

Nintendo Life’s review reported hitches and stutters throughout the campaign even when docked. Eidos-Montréal made few graphical cuts to get the game running on Switch 2, so the version holds up well visually against the PlayStation 5 release. Loading screens last roughly 15 seconds on both the Switch 2 port and the 2021 PlayStation 5 version. Eidos-Montréal fixed a bug that blocked certain conversations after loading a save and kept collectibles out of Peter’s glossary in the Switch 2 version.

It uses the Switch 2’s integrated mouse for menus and aiming, and supports gyroscope input for steering the Milano and moving Peter during sliding or zero-gravity sequences. Eidos-Montréal developed the version in-house so it would feel right on TV or handheld. The Encore Edition includes the complete main game plus all released digital content.

It adds five new outfits inspired by 1980s glam rock for Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot. WorthPlaying announced the soundtrack details on September 11, 2026, including Iron Maiden, KISS, New Kids On The Block, Rick Astley and more.

The game originally launched on October 26, 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The Switch release was cloud-only. The game won Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021.

It reached 8 million players about a year after release, partly because of Xbox Game Pass inclusion. IGN reported on September 9, 2026 that it is unclear how many people have played since then, but deep discounts suggest the audience has likely expanded over the last four years.

Eidos Montreal stated it had no regrets over the game despite it missing sales expectations. Fans on social media have asked Marvel and Eidos Montreal for a sequel. The studio announced the Switch 2 Encore Edition during a Nintendo Direct on September 9, 2026. Fans had assumed the game would never return because it missed sales expectations despite strong reviews.

Jean-François Dugas, Studio Creative Director at Eidos-Montréal, said, “We put a lot of love into these five characters, and the players’ reactions confirmed that they felt the same way.” Inès Bruckner, Associate Producer at Eidos-Montréal, said the team developed the Switch 2 version in-house so it would always feel right on TV or handheld. Eric Monacelli, Executive Producer at Marvel Games, said bringing a critically acclaimed story to the Nintendo Switch 2 was a natural step.

Nintendo Life said on November 2, 2026 that the original Guardians of the Galaxy launched on the first Switch as a cloud version that was not really recommended, while the Encore Edition is an actual native port. The review called performance on the Switch 2 port miles better than the Cloud version on the first Switch, though it noted hitches and stutters throughout the campaign even when docked. IGN said the Switch 2 release may be overshadowed by a remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
