On November 3, 2026, PlayStation’s official blog reported that Helldivers 2 introduces a venomous Noxious Terminid strain while widening Terminid cave networks across additional planetary biomes. Gaming Route attributes the announcement to Arrowhead community manager Mitchell Ayre. The post details two new enemy types under the Noxious strain: a small Noxious Scavenger and a larger Noxious Spewer, both portrayed as swift and toxic dangers to Managed Democracy.
The Noxious Scavenger travels significantly faster than standard Scavengers, making it difficult to follow visually. Every bite injects poison, and the creature can strike again within moments, though it is fragile. Given its fragility, the blog suggests shotguns, flamethrowers, and grenades, weapons that reward volume over precision. The blog notes that bullets cost less than antivenom when facing these fragile creatures.
The Noxious Spewer is a bulky foe that moves with unnatural speed and blankets battlefields in webs. The Spewer’s Web Spit strikes at medium range and strips away sprinting on contact, letting the creature close in on its target. The Spewer’s bite comes fast, boasts unexpected range, and carries stronger venom than any Scavenger can deliver. Medium armor protects its head, but the sac-like abdomen has no protection, and rupturing it triggers a Web Explosion that ensnares nearby Helldivers and bugs, which GameRant describes as dealing massive damage.
Poisoning manifests in two stages, tracked by a new poison icon on the HUD. Light poisoning clouds vision and slowly drains health. Heavy poisoning amplifies damage over time, eliminates sprinting, and further clouds vision. Stims counteract poisoning, and the advice is to conserve them since a poisoned squadmate may require one.
Terminid cave networks now span beyond a handful of worlds, appearing beneath additional biomes on the Galactic map from scorched deserts to frozen tundras. The blog warns that every planet could conceal a hive below its surface and that Super Earth is actively hunting Terminids underground. GameRant presents the cave addition as a new biome for players to explore underground, while the PlayStation Blog describes cave networks spreading beneath existing biomes rather than one new biome. Within tunnels, sightlines are poor, corners provide no cover, and fast enemies appear before they are heard.
Techtroduce notes that gear optimized for open ground may struggle in tight tunnels where foes close fast or strip away sprinting. The site recommends close-range weapons, squad coordination, and keeping a spare stim ready inside the expanded cave networks.
The announcement arrives amid Arrowhead’s 2026 content roadmap, which runs through year’s end. The Scope of Authority Warbond released in October, featuring scoped weapons including the R-40 Sightliner, the Caltrops throwable, and the SS-33 Mimetic Marshal armor. The launch comes after the 7.2.0 anti-cheat patch and the Liberty Day 2026 complimentary Liberator Legacy. Arrowhead has yet to release patch notes or assign a version number to the announcement, and the Steam store still lists Devoid of Liberty 7.2.0 dated October 20 along with 7.2.1 and 7.2.2 follow-ups.
The studio has not revealed how long the Noxious strain stays operational or which worlds it will strike first.
Bile Spewers and Scavengers were present in Helldivers 2, but the 7.2.0 notes divided their common spawning strain into a standalone Game Master-controlled variant with a visual style resembling Rupture and Spore Burst. The Noxious strain introduces a fresh poison condition and web abilities, paired with a video called A Cleaner Galaxy Starts With You on PlayStation’s YouTube channel.
The additions align with Arrowhead’s 2026 plan, and the studio hints at a significant December update while withholding details. As of November 3, 2026, GameRant observes the game is close to its third anniversary, noting that it keeps delivering new content over two years after launch.
The title is a third-person squad shooter created by Arrowhead Game Studios and distributed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which debuted on PC and PS5 on February 8, 2024, and reached Xbox Series X|S on August 26, 2025. It holds a Mature 17+ rating and accommodates one to four players online. Helldivers 2 stays among the most-played titles on Steam, although Sony keeps console numbers private.
Earlier this year, update 6.2.2, called Machinery of Oppression, launched on April 28, 2026, introducing two fresh biomes such as a lush forest world, an Exo Suit rebalance, and enemy tweaks alongside the Exo Experts Warbond, which brings fresh exosuit designs for close-quarters combat and fire-based offense. Certain players objected to higher enemy durable damage since it impacts vehicle use, and Arrowhead justified the buffs by noting Terminids lagged behind Automatons and Illuminates in damaging vehicles. Johan Pilestedt stepped down as studio CEO in May 2024 and became chief creative officer. He later hosted a Reddit AMA after noticing disappointment, criticism, and mistrust within the subreddit.
