This is a new development in a story we reported earlier: Grand Theft Auto 6 to launch November 19, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S.

Key facts

  • Rockstar Games has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will launch globally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, using a local midnight release timing strategy as November 19 arrives in each time zone.
  • Digital preloading for Grand Theft Auto VI opens on November 10, 2026, two days earlier than the initially planned November 12 date tied to physical copy shipments.
  • Xbox Series X|S players can start preloading Grand Theft Auto VI globally at 12 AM GMT on November 10, 2026, which is 7 PM ET on November 9 in North America.
  • The Grand Theft Auto VI preload file is up to 212 gigabytes depending on the device, and players need at least 212 gigabytes of free storage to download it.

Rockstar Games moved up digital preloading for Grand Theft Auto VI to November 10, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio had initially planned November 12 preloads to align with physical copy shipments. The game releases on November 19, 2026, opening at midnight locally as that date arrives around the world. Digital preorder customers have nine days to download before launch, while buyers with a physical copy can preload the complete 212-gigabyte file a week before release.

Rockstar Games said digital preorders on PlayStation 5 can start at midnight local time on November 10, 2026. On Xbox Series X|S, preloading opens globally at 12 AM GMT on November 10, 2026. In North America, that start time is 7 PM ET on November 9.

Rockstar Games said people who buy the physical copy or a code-in-box version (a retail box containing a digital download code) can preload on November 12, 2026, once the product ships to their location. VICE said New Zealand players will be among the first to play because the game unlocks at midnight locally in each region while much of the world stays on November 18. The outlet also said installing the game early does not grant early access, and players must wait for their region’s unlock on November 19.

Rockstar Games said the download requires up to 212 gigabytes depending on the device, and players must have at least 212 gigabytes of free storage. PlayStation Blog told PS5 owners to clear that space ahead of the launch. The same post listed the Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition preorder bonus through the PlayStation Store. That bonus covers premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and other items linked to Jason and Lucia’s story.

Rockstar will offer a double-sided poster with the cover art and Leonida map shortly after launch. It costs $0.99 at the Rockstar Store or comes free with any purchase. The studio will also add printable cover art and a Leonida map to its official website on November 19, 2026, as free digital downloads. Rockstar has not said whether the physical edition will include the poster and map, and the studio has also not confirmed a day-one patch.
