Sony raised its Game & Network Services sales forecast by 6 percent on November 5, 2026, citing higher sales of non-first-party game software titles ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6, which launches November 19, 2026, for the segment that includes PlayStation. The company also disclosed its first official sales figure for Marvel’s Wolverine, reporting more than 2.4 million units sold worldwide as of November 4, 2026, about 50 days after the PS5 exclusive debuted on September 15, 2026.
In Sony’s own words, “cumulative sales of Marvel’s Wolverine, released in September, exceeded 2.4 million units”. Sony disclosed the cumulative sell-through number in its quarterly financial results, saying the title contributed to improved results for the entire Game & Network Services segment. Sony said it used its Marvel’s Spider-Man development expertise to create a differentiated action experience for Wolverine, and that users praised its immersive action, production quality, and storytelling.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a standalone story sharing continuity with Insomniac’s other Marvel worlds. Players control James ‘Logan’ Howlett, portrayed by Liam McIntyre, a mutant with regenerative healing and retractable claws who travels the globe and encounters Mystique, Omega Red, and the Sentinels. Insomniac Games developed the game for its exclusive launch on PS5 on September 15, 2026.
Sony’s Game & Network Services segment earned 1,208.5 billion yen in sales for the July through September 2026 quarter, up 9 percent from the same period a year earlier. Operating income for the division reached 220.1 billion yen, up 83 percent year-on-year.
Sony said the operating income gain was driven mainly by the removal of prior-year impairment charges along with stronger software and network revenue. PlayStation network services revenue increased 19.5 percent to 218.3 billion yen for the quarter.
Sony earned 3.95 billion dollars across all divisions in the last quarter. Yahoo Finance presented the companywide quarterly profit alongside PlayStation segment results as part of Sony’s broader financial picture. PlayStation monthly active users rose 7 percent in September 2026 versus the prior fiscal year’s September, reaching 127 million accounts, the highest September total on record.
Sony described the user base growth as evidence that the baseline of engagement is steadily improving even while PS5 hardware sales decline. Sony said lifetime PS5 shipments passed 97.9 million units worldwide, leaving platform sales close to 100 million units. Quarterly PS5 unit sales fell to 2.6 million from 4 million a year earlier, in line with Sony’s expectation of declining hardware sales late in the console’s lifecycle.
Sony lifted its gaming profit forecast by 6 percent on increased non-first-party sales, lower costs, and revenue from network services such as PlayStation Plus. The first-party delay of Sony Santa Monica’s God of War Laufey from February to May is one factor pulling down forecast profits during Sony’s current financial year, which ends March 31, 2027, alongside third-party gains.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19, 2026, and Sony’s Rockstar Games partnership promotes it primarily on PlayStation 5, showing PS5-only gameplay and marketing that it plays best on PS5.
Sony offered Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as a benchmark. The game sold 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours in October 2023, reached 5 million copies in 10 days, and has sold 18.2 million units. Both Insomniac Spider-Man titles saw a player bump following the Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie.
Ghost of Yotei sold 3.3 million units within 32 days after its October release the prior year, a faster pace than Marvel’s Wolverine. Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies 58 days after its 2024 launch, offering another comparison point for Wolverine’s 50-day sales figure.

Circana ranked Marvel’s Wolverine as the best-selling game in the United States for September 2026, ahead of NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27, counting physical and digital sales. The game also beat The Blood of Dawnwalker, Wardogs, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword in the United States. It recorded Sony’s largest physical launch sales of 2026 in the United Kingdom and topped the United States software charts for September.
PS5 dollar sales in the United States climbed 43 percent versus the same period last year, with excitement around Grand Theft Auto VI potentially contributing to the growth. The increase coincided with Wolverine’s launch.
Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliot reported that Marvel’s Wolverine moved 1.9 million units in its opening three days, implying roughly 500,000 more sales across the next 47 days if the report holds. If accurate, the opening figure represented most of the total, with sales slowing sharply after the initial launch window. Beebom reported that Marvel’s Wolverine cost more than 300 million dollars to develop. Its current sales trajectory makes it one of the year’s weaker-selling PS5 releases, and it remains unclear whether Wolverine can pass Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales sales or recoup its reported budget.
Marvel’s Wolverine entered a crowded release calendar ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19, 2026, competing with Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The game faced lukewarm reviews and negative online chatter while competing for attention before Grand Theft Auto 6.
