Jagex canceled RuneScape Reignited on Oct. 15, 2026. Players reacted negatively to the Reignited announcement, saying it would fracture the existing player base. Mod Ryan said on Oct. 15 that the studio missed the mark and would not proceed with Reignited.
He explained that ignoring past player feedback caused combat changes that required over a decade to recover from. Mod Ryan specifically cited the 2012 Evolution of Combat update as the example of that past mistake.
Jagex apologized on Oct. 6, 2026, for making Veteran players – accounts that have been active since the game’s early years feel like they were no longer a priority. Three days after the apology, Jagex proposed changes such as allowing players to Reignite an existing character under their current membership.
Reignited was set to launch on Dec. 2, 2026, with its own economy, Grand Exchange, hiscores, and exclusive worlds. It would have required a separate membership and prohibited trade or boss instance sharing with Veteran characters.
Despite the cancellation, the Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey remain scheduled for release on Dec. 2, 2026. A 10-day free trial will run from Dec. 2 to Dec.
12, 2026. The trial will grant access to members’ worlds for new characters and any account without membership since June 2, 2026.
Plugins are set to launch on Oct. 19, 2026, with additional information to be provided on that day. The 2027 roadmap presented at RuneFest 2026 remains unchanged, featuring combat and skilling updates, a grandmaster quest conclusion, and an Agility rework.
