Valve introduced Violet as the fifth hero in Deadlock’s City Never Sleeps update on October 16, 2026.

Valve describes her as a map‑manipulating hero who uses living paint and brush‑stroke mechanics to alter the battlefield. Her basic attacks fling globs of paint but have a slow fire rate.

She follows previous winners Rat King, Baba, Solomon, and Deadman Danny. The Living Ink ability empowers Violet’s next three bullets to be manually steered, increasing bullet and splash spirit damage, and each successful hit on a hero reduces all ability cooldowns and half of item cooldowns. While Living Ink is active, Violet can paint a solid stroke through the air that blocks all characters and projectiles, though a heavy melee attack can destroy it while dealing spirit damage to the attacker.

Players can use the painted stroke to block doorways, impede enemy movement, or create climbing paths. Living Ink cannot deal critical damage, does not reduce the cooldown of Siphon Bullets, and reduces Violet’s basic attack fire rate by 20% when active.

Flow State launches a brush that leaves a trail on the ground, granting allies bonus slide distance and inflicting a two‑second, 60% fading movespeed slow on enemies passed through. Re‑activating Flow State flicks the brush forward, dealing burst spirit damage in an area and ending the trail early. The brush from Flow State has no range limit and can travel indefinitely until it hits something or the ability is re‑activated.

Early players have discovered a trick using Flow State to slide along the brush’s trail for easier navigation on Cursed Apple backstreets. Still Life allows Violet to focus on an enemy within 25 meters, dealing spirit damage over time while she maintains line of sight; completing the sketch deals additional damage and applies a one‑second stun. A completed sketch drops to the ground and grants Violet a permanent stat boost when picked up, with the type based on the hero drawn.

Possible stat boosts from sketches include +4% Weapon Damage, +three Spirit Power, +20 Max Health, or +0.19 Movement Speed. Higher ranks of Still Life apply health regen on cast, reduce target’s damage by 35% while painted, and boost Violet’s movespeed.

Abstract Landscape creates an 18‑meter circle of ink walls that block vision, grant spirit to allies, reveal enemies, and punish those who leave with damage, silence, and a 30% movespeed slow. The ultimate’s circle is approximately the size of the Midboss room. The Abstract Landscape enclosure forms in a counter‑clockwise circular pattern starting behind Violet.

The ink walls count as veils, triggering Veil Walker when walked through, and at higher ranks the ability gains reduced cooldown, spirit power and spirit lifesteal for allies while the walls become indestructible. The City Never Sleeps update has consistently increased Deadlock’s concurrent player count with each new hero release.

Deadman Danny’s release on October 14, 2026, pushed Deadlock to a peak of 275,452 concurrent players. The update schedules Nurse Harrow for release on October 20, 2026.

Valve describes Violet’s kit as one of the most distinctive and creative in Deadlock. Violet’s lore includes immigrating to The Cursed Apple at age 12, attending art school, and MOMA’s Upstart Gallery features her; her weapon is Creative Solutions, and the community has noted an Easter egg where Violet draws Vyper in a pose referencing the ‘French girls’ scene from Titanic, possibly inspired by a viral artwork by @Paruparro on October 1, 2026.
