Key facts

  • Re-Logic completed the finishing touches on Terraria crossplay phase one in October 2026 and moved the build into extensive testing across PC, mobile, and console versions.
  • Re-Logic originally planned to submit the update during the week of October 2026, but testing uncovered issues that must be fixed before submission can proceed.
  • Once Re-Logic receives full signoff from all platform holders, it will push the launch for Terraria 1.4.6 and crossplay phase one, though the exact timing remains outside the studio's control.
  • Crossplay Phase Two is planned as 'Cross-Network' play using join codes, allowing players to share a world across any platform and network without needing to set up port forwarding.

Re-Logic finalized the last details of the Terraria crossplay phase one update in October 2026 and began extensive testing of the new build across PC, mobile, and console platforms. The studio originally planned to submit the update during the week of October 2026, but the latest tests uncovered issues the team needed to address first, according to the company’s October 2026 State of the Game.

Head of Business Strategy Ted ‘Loki’ Murphy described the delay as minor and said the fixes were not expected to take long, with the team likely back on track by the following week. If all goes well, Re-Logic expects to resume the submission schedule in November 2026, after which the update will go to all platform holders for approval.

In the February 2026 State of the Game, Re-Logic defined Crossplay Phase One as a feature that lets console players enter a host’s IP address and port to join sessions, matching the direct-connect option available to PC and mobile users. This feature is the first step in connecting a first set of platforms, with the full cross-platform picture arriving in later phases.

Terraria 1.4.5.8 was released on PC on August 23, 2026, on Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile on September 3, and on Switch on September 8, 2026. Console players cannot join dedicated servers because they cannot enter a server address.

To support Phase One crossplay on a dedicated server, operators must upgrade their servers to version 1.4.6 at launch and keep their IP address and port the same, since the connection method depends on players entering a static address.

Because the 1.4.6 update links players across different systems at once, Re-Logic anticipates it will face stricter review during the platform submission process. The update requires simultaneous approval from Steam, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and mobile, unlike standard updates that only need approval from one platform holder.

Once Re-Logic receives full signoff from all platform holders, it will push the launch for Terraria 1.4.6 and crossplay phase one, though the exact timing remains outside the studio’s control. The PC dedicated server supports one to 255 players, though a console client’s ceiling is unstated, and Re-Logic has not announced a hosting partner for Phase One.

This milestone is for Terraria’s massive, historically fragmented player base. The game reached 70 million in sales by its 15th anniversary in May 2026, with 39.6 million on PC, 10.7 million on console, and 19.7 million on mobile, averaging around half a million daily players.

Historically, separate update tracks split the game across platforms, but recent updates have brought every platform to the same version. The 1.4.5 update, dubbed the Bigger and Boulder Update, prompted one of the biggest player spikes in over a decade, hitting a release day peak of almost 165,000 players on Steam in January 2026.

Starting with the September 2026 State of the Game, Re-Logic and DR Studios combined their PC and console development updates because every platform is now on the same version, enabling simultaneous crossplay releases.

Re-Logic has outlined Phase Two as a ‘Cross-Network’ feature that will use join codes, enabling players to share a world across any platform and network without the hassle of configuring port forwarding, which involves directing a router’s incoming traffic to a specific device. Re-Logic plans to work on Phase Two as soon as possible behind Phase One, with the studio stating its intention ‘to try and get Phase Two in as soon as possible behind Phase One.’

Re-Logic confirmed in May 2026 that updates will continue beyond the 1.4.6 crossplay patch, and announced a 15th anniversary collector’s edition and a retrospective book, Terraria Design Works, developed with Lost in Cult. Preorders for the 15th anniversary collector’s edition have closed, but a small overrun may be available.

As the base game advances toward crossplay, the plan excludes the tModLoader community, which operates on the older Terraria 1.4.4 version, because it does not meet the ‘same release version’ standard. The tModLoader team released a monthly update for Terraria 1.4.4 on November 1, 2026, focusing on security hardening, while the port to Terraria 1.4.5 will take ‘many months’ to complete.

Re-Logic brought on Kerri R, known as ‘The Rat Queen,’ as its new Community Manager in October 2026 to handle community engagement. She held the same position at Vampire Survivors developer Poncle and will manage social media, forums, and Discord.

Kerri R, Re-Logic’s new Community Manager who goes by ‘The Rat Queen,’ shared her first message with the community: “I’m over the moon to have joined the team here and I look forward to interacting with as many of you as humanly (ratly?) possible.” In the same post, she let fans know her favorite things to build and fight, naming the Dryad, the mage class, and the Arc Surge weapon, and she mentioned wanting more rats. Re-Logic omitted the seasonal Halloween Contest in 2026, but Kerri R has contest ideas planned for the future.

Re-Logic is already mapping out the future, including an unnamed extra update scheduled to land between phase one and phase two. Re-Logic also announced a Terraria x FiGGYZ collaboration, with community voting determining the four most popular designs for a numbered Collector’s Box Set.
