Chucklefish announced during Nintendo’s October 28, 2026 Indie World showcase that Witchbrook will launch January 28, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Chucklefish confirmed Witchbrook will launch on Xbox Game Pass on its first day of availability, with no additional subscription-tier details or pricing announced as part of the reveal. A new trailer debuted during the showcase, featuring class attendance, relationship building, and cooperative play. The footage showed Mossport, classes, skill upgrades, crop tending, and cooperative play for up to four players. The cooperative mode lets friends explore Mossport together, practice magic, and race around on broomsticks while developing their own stories in the shared world.

Chucklefish first teased Witchbrook in 2016 and officially revealed it in 2018 after earlier teasers under different titles. The studio had planned the game for 2025 before pushing it to 2026 because additional development time was necessary to complete the world, activities, and interconnected systems, and it has now slipped to January 28, 2027. Relative silence marked the long development stretch after the initial reveal, with the project undergoing a retitle and multiple schedule changes before the January 2027 confirmation, and later updates covered playtesting and bug fixes along with localization and console porting. TheGamer states Chucklefish announced Witchbrook in 2017 under the name Spellbrook before retitling it in 2018, while VICE says it was previously known as Spellbound, and The Otaku Authority states Witchbrook was first revealed in 2017.

Witchbrook is a magical life simulation and social RPG set in the seaside town of Mossport, where players attend Witchbrook College to study magic and build relationships. The title mixes magic study, exploration, relationships, and daily simulation tasks such as romance, crafting, and cottage decoration across locations like Shadhollow Forest, Parasol Sands, and Shadbrook Cottage. Outside the classroom, players can explore woodlands, gather resources, sell crafts at the Sunday Market, participate in seasonal events, customize a woodland cottage, and ride broomsticks.

Chucklefish is best known for publishing Stardew Valley, which was solely developed by Eric Barone, and for developing the Wargroove series. ComicBook.com and Game Informer connect the studio’s Stardew Valley publishing experience to player expectations for similarities in Witchbrook’s cozy appeal. “Witchbrook is being developed by Chucklefish alongside co-development studio Robotality,” Techtroduce said. “Developed by Chucklefish alongside co-developer Robotality, Witchbrook invites players to become a witch-in-training at Witchbrook College in the seaside town of Mossport,” The Otaku Authority said.

The newly confirmed PlayStation 5 version expands Witchbrook’s previously announced platform lineup, which earlier official information listed as Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox, with other platforms still to be determined. Techtroduce notes the PlayStation 5 version was not part of the earlier official details, which had left other platforms undecided. Some sources list Xbox One as a launch platform alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC, while other sources refer to Xbox more generally.

“The Witchbrook release date is Thursday, January 28, 2027,” VICE said. “Outside of Switch and Switch 2 consoles, Witchbrook will also land on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC platforms next year,” ComicBook.com said. “The game supports co-op of up to four players,” Shacknews said.

VICE places the original tease in 2016 and notes fans of cozy life sims have anticipated the magic-based title for years. TheGamer describes the title change as part of a long road for the game that began with a tease in 2016. Shacknews and Techtroduce identify Robotality as the co-developer on the magical life sim.
