Paralives Studio said in an Oct. 23, 2026 development update that its first major update will arrive in early 2027 instead of the end of 2026.
The studio said it needs more time to complete the planned work well. PCGamesN reported that the team changed the original end-of-2026 schedule not because of problems, but because the update grew to include many welcome features drawn from player wishlists.
The first major update will focus on gameplay fundamentals and improving existing features. Future updates will add weather, seasons, gardening, pets, cars, world editing, and creation tools.
Live Mode gains two new skills with related interactions and jobs in an undisclosed field of work. Together Cards will let townies prompt the player for a reaction, with new cards for flirting, joking, or being mean, and unlocks tied to relationship labels such as friend, lover, or enemy. Story Cards will offer new nightly options and more parameters to customize how households evolve.
Interaction updates add emotion-changing or emotion-triggered actions, autonomous behavior based on personality, and talking animations during group activities such as eating, watching TV, or sitting together. The studio reworks the Jester vibe trait so its effects are clearer and portray a humorous, playful character rather than an erratic one.
The studio rebalances the economy by adjusting starting money, starting lots, item prices, and salary progression, so earning money feels more rewarding. Higher-priced furniture and objects will be more efficient, break less often, and replenish needs faster than cheaper options.
Community Center bundles will offer more interesting rewards, townie request payouts will improve, and the studio will add more life goals with better rewards. Build Mode fixes target issues such as floors and objects disappearing and corrupted lots that will not load, while the studio adds new furniture and objects to the catalog. Paramaker upgrades expand the fat and muscle slider ranges to represent more body shapes and add new hairstyles and clothing, including highly requested baggy clothes.
The studio reviewed hundreds of thousands of feedback reports, emails, messages, and comments to find recurring issues and requested features. Paralives Studio says some features may be pushed back while others are added, and it plans to keep sharing progress updates until the update is ready. Paralives entered Early Access on May 25, 2026, with Paramaker, Build Mode with curved walls and terrain, Live Mode basics, a career system, open-world town exploration, Steam Workshop mod support, Together Cards, and skill leveling.
Since that launch, the studio has released eight patches and eight hotfixes and upgraded the game engine to Unity 6. It hired a new Senior Programmer, a new Senior Game Designer, and new QA help after Early Access launched.
Paralives peaked at 78,603 concurrent players and had over 5,200 user reviews with 88 percent positive at Early Access launch. IGN reviewed the game at launch and gave it a score of 7.
The studio grew from two or three people to an average of 10 over six years of development and numbered 15 people at the time of the IGN AMA.
All Paralives updates are free with no paid DLC, and the team says sales from its 15-person team will sustain development for many years. Alex Massé said, “There will never be paid DLCs, only free updates!”
Paralives was originally scheduled for Early Access on December 8, 2025, but the studio delayed it to May 25, 2026, after playtesters found impactful bugs in Live Mode and insufficient town content. The team also planned onboarding improvements.
The Paralives Wiki, published on the Early Access launch day in May 2026, estimated Update 1 for Q3 2026, Update 2 for Q4 2026, Update 3 with cats and dogs in 2027, and Update 4 with vehicles and travel in 2027, with full release around 2028. The wiki said Early Access is estimated to last about two years and that all updates are free.
The studio is testing a new format for frequent development updates, beginning with the October 2026 entry. In a May 2026 Reddit AMA, lead developer Alex Massé said autonomy is a big core feature that needs more love, balancing, and content, and that characters spend much of their time on their phones because phone interactions can be done without targeting another character or item.
Programmer Jérémie Tessier said Together Cards got repetitive and got in the way of basic socialization, but no parallel system is planned; the team wants more cards and more ways for Parafolks to prime moods. Programmer Anna Thibert said multitasking, such as eating while watching TV while sitting down, is not planned for now because it is technically challenging. QA team member Charlotte said adult-content mods are allowed if they follow Steam guidelines and are tagged as adult content, though the team only moderates mods inside Steam Workshop.
Massé said the team would like to expand somewhat without becoming too big because it likes working as a small team, and that it would keep fixing bugs and improving live mode gameplay in coming months and following major updates.
