On October 15, 2026, Valve deployed a Steam Client Beta update that added the Achievement Sets feature to the platform. The new feature allows developers to group a game’s achievements into separate collections, such as base game, DLC, or other categories. Players earn achievements through normal play and Steam then separates them into the developer-defined sets for tracking. This update was released as part of the Steam Client Beta.
The achievements page was rebuilt to display overall progress, per-set progress, and individual details. The Global Stats section, which was always visible at the top of the page, now sits behind a toggle switch. Additionally, the page now includes set-specific filters, allowing players to sort and view achievements based on the specific collections that developers have created for their games.
Players can now compare their achievement progress with up to three friends, seeing how many completed sets each player has earned in their shared games. The comparison tool also shows a total achievement count, but that count reflects only the achievements each player can actually earn, so blocked or unearned achievements don’t skew the numbers. Games that use Family Sharing are now listed in the Games List, and friends with shared playtime are eligible for this new comparison feature. Store pages and library pages now show when a title has Achievement Sets, making it easier for players to spot supported games before purchasing or launching them.
Completed sets now appear in multiple places across the Steam client to give them more visibility. They show up in the Recently Played section, in the Games List, and in the Library, so players can quickly see which games they have fully completed. They also appear on the renamed Completed tab, which replaced the former Perfect Games tab with a clearer name that reflects its new function. Players can add the Completed tab to the Completionist Showcase, allowing players to display their completed sets to the community and highlight their gaming accomplishments.
Developers have new tools to manage how their achievements appear in the new system and to control set completion requirements. They can archive individual achievements or entire sets, a move that keeps them visible on the profiles of players who already earned them but no longer blocks set completion for other players who come later. When players unlock all achievements in a set, Steam awards a “set complete” trophy that remains permanently in the player’s collection, even if Valve or the developer later adds new achievements to that same set. Base Game sets use blue progress indicators and award trophies for achievements that all players can earn regardless of additional purchases, while DLC sets use purple progress indicators and award trophies only after players have acquired the required additional content.

Valve has published a list of titles that have already implemented Achievement Sets, showing early adoption of the new feature. The list includes Against the Storm, Age of Wonders 4, American Truck Simulator, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Crusader Kings III, DREDGE, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, Flock Around, He is Coming, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Portal 2, PowerWash Simulator, PowerWash Simulator 2, Team Fortress 2, and Victoria 3.
The same beta update also brought changes to the Linux Steam client and addressed several bugs. The Linux client now runs as a 64-bit application inside a Steam Runtime container, a change Valve says provides better cross-distribution consistency by ensuring the client behaves more similarly across different Linux distributions. The update also fixed a date-display error that affected users in British Columbia, ensuring that dates appear correctly for those players. Additionally, it addressed various stability issues, memory-leak bugs, and controller problems that had been reported by players in previous versions.
