Key facts

  • 4A Games added NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to Metro 2033 Redux without announcing it, and the option arrived in the October 22, 2026 Next-Gen Update.
  • DLSS 5 mainly improves character faces in Metro Redux, while environment changes are barely noticeable; screenshots show better faces but scenery largely unchanged.
  • DLSS 5 is taxing: DSOGaming measured 220-250 FPS at native 1440p with DLAA using DLSS 5 versus over 330 FPS without it, and one pair fell from 332 fps to 238 fps.
  • Player Renan Maniero found a DLSS 5 DLL in the Metro 2033 Redux folder matching NBA 2K27's version, and other players confirmed a DLSS-NR Neural Rendering setting.

4A Games added NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to Metro 2033 Redux without announcing it, and the option arrived in the October 22, 2026 PC update, Tbreak Media UAE and DSOGaming reported.

The update is free for existing owners on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG. Console and Windows Store versions follow on October 29, 2026.

4A Games confirmed the update does not add ray tracing. It does add 4K textures, improved PBR materials, Screen Space Global Illumination, uncapped frame rates, spatial audio, TSR, DLSS and FSR support.

To enable DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, players open video settings, turn on DLSS, then choose DLSS-NR (neural rendering), which appears only after they turn it on. DSOGaming’s patch notes state that 4K texture support requires a 4K monitor.

The full patch notes also include community-reported fixes for crashes on Windows 11 and AMD GPUs. They cover missing resolutions, controller detection, and a power-optimized mode for Xbox Ally handhelds and the Microsoft Store version.

DLSS 5 Neural Rendering uses AI to modify lighting and material appearance from the rendered image. It differs from DLSS Super Resolution and runs on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and RTX Spark systems.

Player Renan Maniero found a DLSS 5 DLL in the Metro 2033 Redux folder matching NBA 2K27‘s version, and other players confirmed the DLSS-NR Neural Rendering setting. VideoCardz calls Metro 2033 Redux the second DLSS 5 game after NBA 2K27, while Wccftech counts both Metro Redux titles as the second and third official DLSS 5 games.

Sources disagree on which DLSS 5 model Metro ships. Wccftech says the release suggests the September build, while VideoCardz notes the DLL matches NBA 2K27, leaving the model open. NVIDIA claims the updated October model is twice as fast as the September release, and Hogwarts Legacy will receive DLSS 5 on November 5, with Where Winds Meet following in late November; Metro was not announced.

GamingBolt and Tbreak Media UAE reported that DLSS 5 mainly improves character faces in Metro Redux while environment changes are barely noticeable. Screenshots show better faces but scenery largely unchanged, and DSOGaming says all characters look better with DLSS 5 and like plastic dolls without it.

The feature is taxing. DSOGaming measured 220-250 FPS at native 1440p with DLAA using DLSS 5 versus over 330 FPS without it, with one configuration falling from 332 fps to 238 fps.

Tbreak Media UAE reports Wccftech’s speculation that the face-focused effect may be deliberate. It says the DLSS 5 SDK lets developers apply Neural Rendering to selected objects on a 2014-era game whose faces are the weak spot.

DSOGaming reported launch problems on PC. The update capped resolution selection at 1440×1080 until graphics drivers were reinstalled, caused major stuttering in Metro: Last Light Redux, and locked V-Sync to 60 FPS on a 240Hz monitor. “On my 240Hz monitor, turning on V-Sync locked the game to 60 FPS,” said John, founder and Editor in Chief at DSOGaming. The outlet’s author uninstalled both Metro Redux games immediately after taking comparison shots because of resolution, stuttering and V-Sync problems.

Console players on compatible screens can run native 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps. On PS5 Pro the update uses PSSR; Xbox Series X applies TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing, and Xbox platforms support spatial audio.

PlayStation and Xbox versions launch a week after the PC release.

The Metro series passed 50 million copies sold worldwide around the time of the next-gen update announcement, according to The Escapist. The outlet describes the update as a technical refresh preserving the original Redux look and feel rather than a remake, and notes the franchise is 16 years past the original Metro 2033 release.

Metro 2039 is slated for February 4, 2027, and Wccftech says it is unclear whether the new game will support DLSS 5 because its preview build played a couple of months earlier lacked it. The Escapist says the refreshed Redux games arrive ahead of Metro 2039 so returning players can revisit earlier stories without rebuying the games.
