Infinity Ward released a patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Oct. 25, 2026, that resolves exploits in Search and Destroy and DMZ modes while adjusting respawn timing and spawn locations in the Hijack mode. The developer is currently prioritizing the resolution of bugs, stability issues, and exploits while providing quality-of-life updates.

The Oct. 25, 2026 update fixes a Search and Destroy bug that let players defuse bombs outside the intended interaction zones. The fix targets specific exploits within the Search and Destroy multiplayer mode. Infinity Ward also changed when and where players spawn in the Hijack mode. These multiplayer changes were part of a broader effort to improve game stability and quality of life.

On the DMZ side, the patch blocks DMZ weapon builds from showing up in standard multiplayer, keeping loadout configurations separated between the open-world mode and core multiplayer. This was part of loadout-related bug fixes, including issues with non-melee weapons appearing in the melee weapon slot and visual glitches on the M4 caused by attaching ineligible items. The developer also resolved a bug in the DMZ Forward Operating Base that let players exit the map boundaries, and changed spots on the Hajin map where players could get trapped in rocks. The developer also repaired a bug where the extraction helicopter vanished while players were still aboard, and DMZ stash menus no longer appear at unexpected times, removing an obstruction during gameplay.

The developer fixed a bug where the Deathstalker killstreak could leave the Rooftops map boundaries. The developer is also looking into a network error triggered when players extract from DMZ while carrying a looted Dog Tag, as well as a separate issue that disconnects spectators from matches at random.

The patch also fixed general stability and crash problems in Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer. The Portable Radar field upgrade now works in Hardcore matches, where it failed to display the minimap. The upgrade normally reveals nearby enemies on the minimap.

The developer also repaired menus that shut down without player input during normal navigation. Visual effects tied to finishing moves no longer leak into menu screens. A keybind used to split inventory stacks now updates correctly when players assign a custom control. The developer also fixed animation bugs that made opponent characters enter unexpected visual states that should not occur during standard multiplayer gameplay.

During Gunsmith prestige, weapon attachments now revert to their default configuration automatically, fixing a case where they did not. The favorite Operators feature now works on the Collateral map, where it had not been functioning correctly.

On the DMZ side, Dark Zone story-mission markers now direct players to the correct objective, fixing a case where they pointed to the wrong target and confused players trying to progress. The developer reduced how often AI reinforcements spawn during the DMZ Shopping mission, where AI-controlled forces had been appearing too frequently, increasing difficulty beyond the intended design. Party leaders can no longer extract teammates from DMZ without their consent, fixing a case where players could be removed from matches even if they did not agree to leave.

Infinity Ward pointed players to a Trello board where they can follow the list of known issues after launch. Modern Warfare 4 released on Oct. 23, 2026, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2, after a beta period in August 2026.

During Early Access, which ran from Aug. 21 through Aug. 25, Infinity Ward issued live patches based on player feedback instead of holding changes for the day-one update. The Open Beta began on Aug. 28, adding Ground War and the Warzone Resurgence map Zodiac to the rotation. Infinity Ward added Cachette, a 6v6 map set around a warehouse near a French rail system, to the beta map pool.

The developer framed the Oct. 25 patch as an effort to address early problems in the latest Call of Duty title, citing stability and exploit fixes as key goals. Infinity Ward said its current focus centers on “improving stability, addressing bugs, resolving exploits, and making quality-of-life improvements across the game.”
