DMZ is an extraction mode that first appeared in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and later appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Mobile before returning in Modern Warfare 4. Players deploy into Hajin City, a desolate Exclusion Zone created by a catastrophic nuclear meltdown at the tripoint where Russia, North Korea and South Korea meet. COGconnected describes the zone as a volatile environment following the campaign, filled with abandoned military technology, valuable weapons and dangerous enemy forces. Nintendo Insider,COGconnected

Each run supports solo, duo, three-player squads with friends, or Squad Fill with two random allies, and holds up to 60 players. Deployments run on a 30-minute clock, and every deployment begins with a complimentary loadout before players face AI forces and enemy squads on the route to exfiltration. Vehicle convoys roam the roads, exploding robot dogs chase players, and drones attack while hostile forces hunt across the map. Nintendo Insider,Notebookcheck,COGconnected

Prima Games and Notebookcheck say DMZ uses its own progression track reaching Level 70, separate from the regular Level 1 to 55 account system, and experience earned in DMZ also applies to the player’s overall level. XP comes from story missions, dynamic operations and side ops and stays valid even after a failed extraction. Advancing through DMZ levels unlocks base stations and upgrades, including the 3D printer at Level 2. The 3D printer operates at the base between matches and can build the Medium Backpack, whose secure slots keep items safe when an extraction fails. Prima Games,Notebookcheck

Materials scavenged during missions are automatically disassembled; the Forward Operating Base can use them to manufacture equipment and rare gear. The hub offers weapon purchasing, a firing range, bounty boards, inventory storage through The Stash, and a 3D Printer. Nintendo Insider describes the Forward Operating Base as a secret facility that the government flatly denies exists. COGconnected,Nintendo Insider

Nintendo Insider and COGconnected say DMZ Operators earn Trait Points when they level up, which players can invest across three Trait Trees: Warfighter, Scout, and Survivalist. Points belong to the individual Operator who earned them, affecting character selection for difficult missions. If an Operator is eliminated during a run, that character goes Missing in Action and retrieval requires DMZ Cash calculated according to the Operator’s Trait Points. Nintendo Insider,COGconnected

COGconnected describes traversal as the biggest DMZ issue, noting the absence of a wingsuit or permanent parachute makes moving across the enormous map feel like a slog. The outlet also reports lengthy matchmaking and technical issues disrupted the PC review-event build, though it expects patches for them. COGconnected says losing gear on death is central to extraction shooters, but the current punishment can feel excessive, and that DMZ centers on cooperative play while solo players should not feel outmatched at every turn. COGconnected

Nintendo Insider’s author played DMZ on Nintendo Switch 2 with Ghost locked in the build and chose the Operator Min-Hee instead. The author calls DMZ one of the most compelling multiplayer experiences played in recent years and says they could not tear themselves away from it. Notebookcheck says the Switch 2 port is being developed natively by Infinity Ward and Digital Legends, aiming for 60 frames per second in docked multiplayer, while handheld testing at Gamescom reached roughly 44 frames per second and optimization continues. Nintendo Insider,Notebookcheck

Nintendo Insider says the introductory operation Breaking New Ground tasks players with recovering a black box from a downed drone while a military dog named Rex defends them and takes a bullet to his back leg. The mode also features a Bounty system that lets players randomly select a rival squad to hunt down. The first three DMZ Orders instruct players to gear up from the Stash, practice at the Firing Range, and deploy to the Exclusion Zone in Dynamic Ops. Nintendo Insider

The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, the Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. Eligible owners of earlier Call of Duty games receive a 10% loyalty discount on the Vault Edition. Xbox told Game Pass members the game is not included at launch, with availability starting in holiday 2027. Notebookcheck
