PlayStation Game size reports Grand Theft Auto 6 at 210 GB for PlayStation 5

PlayStation Game Size reported on Oct. 27, 2026 that Grand Theft Auto 6 requires a 210 GB download on PlayStation 5.

The Economic Times reported that Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the figure. KeenGamer said the 210 GB number could change before release. Eurogamer said PlayStation Store observers are likely to check again and share any changes to the file size. PlayStation Game Size has a credible record of finding PlayStation 5 file sizes.

Eurogamer sets the launch for Nov. 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and Khel Now confirms the same date. Preloading begins on Nov. 12, 2026, which Khel Now describes as exactly one week before launch. Players can confirm the download size when preloading opens.

Everyone will have to download more than 200 GB to play on PlayStation 5, though the installed footprint may be smaller than the download total. Eurogamer said the download figure may not match the final space used on the console’s solid-state drive. Unclear whether a day one patch is included in the 210 GB or will arrive separately.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be one of the densest games ever released, with a highly detailed open world and many side activities beyond most current titles. Its cinematic, hours-long story also contributes to the large file. Eurogamer compared the situation to Call of Duty, which is famous for gargantuan file sizes when multiple modes are installed and lets players selectively uninstall parts they do not play.

Cyberleek reported in October 2026 that they had a full playable build over 200 GB, but KeenGamer said it was a developer build rather than the final version around Oct. 12, 2026, so file sizes are expected to change before release.

On the standard PlayStation 5, which offers around 667 GB of usable storage, the game would take up nearly one-third of the console’s space if the report is correct. The original default model gives players over 660 GB of usable space, and if leaks are true, the game would occupy almost one-third of that storage.

PlayStation Game Size on X attributed the 210 GB figure to the $80 standard edition. No file size information was released for the $100 Ultimate Edition, which has additional content over the regular version.

SVG’s Joey Car said the PlayStation 5 has 665 GB of usable space, leaving room for only two or possibly three other games. “One console that likely won’t have issues is the PS5 Pro,” he said, noting it has 1.86 TB of usable space.

On the Xbox Series S, Joey Car said its roughly 365 GB of storage would lose more than half its space to the game. Analytics Insight puts the 512GB Xbox Series S at around 364 GB usable and the 1TB model at roughly 800 GB. Joey Car said the Xbox Series X has around 800 GB usable. If Grand Theft Auto 6 needs 210 GB, it would take up a significant amount of space on the Xbox Series S.

Rockstar’s physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S provide download codes and no disc. The support page states, “A disc will not be included in the box.” The 210 GB figure exceeds the 100 GB capacity of a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X disc and would require three discs if distributed physically. Rockstar has not confirmed why it chose download codes over discs, though disc manufacturing costs have been suggested as a possible reason.

For PC, Grand Theft Auto 6 is a strictly single-player game expected in early 2027. Rockstar has not confirmed the Xbox download size, though some outlets expect it to be over 200 GB, similar to the PlayStation 5 version, and no Xbox download size has been reported. At publication, it was unknown how much the game would differ in file size between Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

Players may need to reorganize installed content before launch, and day one patches plus future updates are expected to increase the overall file size. PlayStation Game Size will update the public if the file size changes after release. Review codes are already out for media outlets and selected content creators, with reviews expected on Nov. 18, 2026.
