PlayStation Game Size disclosed on Oct. 27, 2026 that the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI requires 210 gigabytes of storage on PlayStation 5 and lists for $79.99. Beebom reports the figure applies to both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
FandomWire reports that Rockstar first aimed for a 2025 release, then shifted to May 26, 2026, before setting the launch for Nov. 19, 2026 to polish the final product. The outlet reports the release is digital-forward rather than centered on physical retail, and that the PC edition is due in early 2027.

Beebom and FandomWire report that digital preloading begins Nov. 12, 2026 at midnight, giving players seven days to download before launch, and Beebom adds that the midnight release in every region means this is not a simultaneous global release for Rockstar. ComicBook.com reports that players who preload can boot the game at midnight on launch day without downloading anything else.
Kotaku reports that Rockstar has not revealed how much storage the Xbox Series X|S version needs, and no PC file size is known. Beebom and ComicBook.com expect the Xbox version to match or exceed 200 gigabytes.
Kotaku reported on Oct. 27, 2026 that Insider Gaming corroborated the 210-gigabyte figure for Grand Theft Auto VI, making the figure look likely to be accurate. The outlet said the figure excludes a possible day-one patch, future updates, downloadable content and Grand Theft Auto Online, and that these extras together could make the game a significant storage burden beyond the base download. Its writer says nearly two-thirds of an original Xbox Series S’s usable storage would go to the base game, leaving enough space for Grand Theft Auto VI plus Elden Ring: Nightreign once nearly everything else is gone. The outlet also reported that some Call of Duty releases and ARK: Survival Evolved with every downloadable content pack are bigger on console.
The previous game ran about 95 gigabytes on PlayStation 4, 100 gigabytes on PlayStation 5 and 105 gigabytes for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced on Steam, which makes Grand Theft Auto VI roughly double its predecessor. Yahoo Tech reports the new game’s file size is double Red Dead Redemption II’s, and its map covers three times the area of Red Dead Redemption 2’s map. Beebom reports that Vice City alone covers twice the area of Grand Theft Auto V’s Los Santos, and Rockstar has confirmed that the game offers the richest and densest open world ever made for a video game.
At launch, Grand Theft Auto VI will be strictly single-player, while a new Grand Theft Auto Online is due later. ComicBook.com reports Rockstar could release that future version as a separate download so the base game does not grow too large.
Beebom reports that the review embargo lifts Nov. 18, 2026, and that review codes for creators and critics have already gone out. The outlet says Rockstar sent codes early since the download is large, so creators could download the game ahead of time, while Red Dead Redemption II codes went out about a week before the October 26, 2018, release.
Yahoo Tech reports that the $100 Ultimate Edition contains content absent from the regular version, although its file size has not been disclosed. FandomWire reports that the Ultimate Edition’s file size is unconfirmed and could grow once bonus content and pre-order extras are included. Yahoo Tech cites one report projecting 25 million preorders ahead of launch and $2 billion in revenue.
