Rockstar Games confirmed the Grand Theft Auto 6 special edition of Edge will release in physical and digital formats. The physical copy includes a gatefold cover showing artwork of protagonists Jason and Lucia. Edge staff traveled to the studio’s Edinburgh development HQ to talk to the leadership team, Edge posted an official preview video featuring low-resolution images of the new screenshots, and the issue will feature a new look at Mendez, Jason, and ocean wildlife, alongside exclusive interviews.

UK subscribers can receive the GTA 6 special edition free plus 13 issues at 38 percent off the newsstand price, while new subscribers outside the UK get a free digital edition of the special issue. The digital edition may appear around 10 a.m. UK time on October 29, equivalent to 3 a.m. PT or 6 a.m. ET, though no official release time has been confirmed. The digital issue could see a surge in traffic that makes it difficult for some readers to access, based on Game Informer’s traffic.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches worldwide on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game will launch without a physical disc version and will skip a PC release at launch, according to GameRant. A $400 Collector’s Box contains assorted knickknacks but no copy of the game. It is unknown whether Rockstar will release more Grand Theft Auto 6 information dumps or stay quiet between now and the November 19 launch.

Game Informer’s cover story revealed over 20 major new details about Grand Theft Auto 6, including tropical storm simulation and animals in Leonida, alongside 12 brand-new screenshots Rockstar provided. IGN could not publish the screenshots because of the exclusivity, and GameRant reported that the Game Informer mobile app experienced technical difficulties from heavy traffic.

The Leonida map is about twice the size of Grand Theft Auto 5 and is the largest map Rockstar has ever made, with an emphasis on interiors that should make the world feel denser. Leonida is based on the real-life US state of Florida, and hurricanes are confirmed as part of weather events common to that state.

Grand Theft Auto 6 includes 170 species of animal, comprising more than 60 birds and 30 land mammals, with hunted creatures divided into rare, discoverable, and legendary categories. Rockstar told Game Informer that animals may display recognizable real-world behavior, as shown by two pigeons picking through trash near The Thirsty Wolf.

The game features fully dynamic cloudscapes and localized rain showers, with rain leaving standing water on surfaces after storms pass. The weather system creates persistent surface water following rain events, and puddles appear on the floor of The Thirsty Wolf biker bar.

Characters will have localized weight gain, including fat on the chest, stomach, and buttocks, alongside the series’ widest array of body types, and Jason and Lucia appear notably toned in a beach screenshot likely from gym activity. Snapmatic returns as an in-game photo feed, but players can only scroll through it and cannot post photos themselves.

The Final Chapter motorcycle gang calls the shots in Ambrosia, with The Thirsty Wolf bar as one of its local hangouts, and the gang’s uniform includes a rank-denoting badge. The most prominent biker in the screenshots is a Sergeant-at-Arms, the club’s primary enforcer, and one image shows Jason making a hasty getaway from armed members.

Aaron Garbut, Rockstar’s head of development and co-studio head, told Game Informer that “the buildings are more real inside and out”. Michael Kane, the vice president of dynamic art, said the team paid close attention to ensuring tattoos for each world community feel culturally correct, and players can visit a tattoo parlor for Jason and Lucia.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will represent skin features such as tanning, sunburn, and moles on characters. Rockstar is creating its biggest-ever range of garments and accessories using rich, realistic materials that reflect Florida’s local culture and fashion trends, with activity-appropriate attire possible.

The game includes mini golf, scuba diving, trips to the zoo, and billiards, with billiards visible in the biker bar screenshot. A screenshot shows a man using an SLR-style (single-lens reflex) camera in Mount Kalaga National Park, suggesting camera use for reconnaissance or photography may return.

Hunting is a side activity in Grand Theft Auto 6, and fishing is possible though the full extent of the system is unknown. Conventional game hunting lifted from Red Dead Redemption 2 appears modernized for a 21st-century setting, with Jason shown using a rifle against deer while wearing olive green attire. Jason’s rifle features an autumnal woodland camouflage pattern, and Lucia holds an M4 assault rifle fitted with a silencer, red-dot scope, and forward grip.

Tucker’s Citrus Farms, an orange grove on the Leonida-Gloriana line, features workers harvesting oranges and packing them into crates to create atmosphere for Leonida’s country areas. An overhead plane kicking up dust over the grove causes a worker to cough and another to drop to their hands and knees, suggesting deep simulation where aircraft disrupt vegetation and trigger non-player character reactions.
