- Insider Gaming independently confirmed the reported 210 GB download size for Grand Theft Auto VI and warned that file sizes may change before preloading starts.
PlayStation Game Size reported the figure on Oct. 27, 2026: the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 would download at 210 GB.
Rockstar Games has not put its name behind the number, and the figure could still shift before launch. Insider Gaming has separately verified the reported size and cautioned that the file could change before preloading begins.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preload access starts Nov. 12, 2026, one week before the Nov. 19 release, a schedule Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed. If the pre-load date holds, PlayStation 5 owners would get one week to download the file before launch. Reviews are expected to land Nov. 18, 2026, and review codes have already gone out to media outlets and selected creators.
Usable storage differs across PlayStation 5 models. The launch model’s 825 GB solid-state drive leaves about 667 GB usable for games and apps, meaning the reported 210 GB file takes about a third of that space. On the baseline PlayStation 5 Slim, the install would cover about 25 percent of its roughly 840 GB of usable storage, TweakTown says. The 1 TB Slim offers about 848 GB usable, the 825 GB Slim Digital about 667 GB, and the 2 TB Pro about 1.89 TB.
The 210 GB report covers the download package, though the total needed for installation and updates could grow beyond the download. Clearing precisely 210 GB probably will not suffice, since consoles need temporary working room while installing and later updates may add more data. Unpacking the file at install time, or Ultimate Edition content, could add bulk and push players to remove other games or apps.
Uncertainty remains over whether Ultimate Edition content adds storage needs and whether the PlayStation 5 Pro version grows larger with more detailed assets. Yahoo Tech and TweakTown say Xbox Series X/S storage requirements have not been reported, and whether the Xbox version will match, undercut, or exceed it remains unclear. Khel Now expects the Xbox Series X/S download to top 200 GB and resemble the PlayStation 5 edition, while noting Rockstar has not confirmed the Xbox figure.
Yahoo Tech says the reported 210 GB file would stand out as large even among asset-heavy modern releases. In November 2019, Rockstar told PC players that Red Dead Redemption 2 needed 150 GB of free storage, and the reported 210 GB Grand Theft Auto VI would top that by about 60 GB. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018; the PC edition followed a year later with a 150 GB request. Grand Theft Auto V shipped on two discs for Xbox 360 in 2013, uncommon for that console generation.
Rockstar North and Rockstar Games are building a new Vice City setting for Grand Theft Auto VI, so series followers should not find the larger file size surprising. PlayStation Game Size’s post lists the standard edition at $79.99.
Nov. 12, 2026 will show whether the preload goes live on the PlayStation Store with a 210 GB file or disproves the report. Opening up an Xbox Series X|S to replace its internal solid-state drive is riskier because of the teardown, though it is possible; the safer option is a Storage Expansion Card.
The X user PlayStation Game Size posted the download figure, has more than 91,200 followers dating to 2020, and has earned a positive reputation for this kind of posting. HYPEX posted the figures on X and pointed to the PlaystationSize account as the source, an account that monitors PlayStation release file sizes.
PlayStation 5 accepts solid-state drives from 250 GB to 8 TB in different form factors, so long as they deliver sequential reads of at least 5,500 MB/s and fit the physical size rules. A 2 TB PlayStation 5 solid-state drive runs about $330 and up; examples are Lexar’s 2 TB NM790 at $334.99 on Amazon and Crucial’s 2 TB P310 with heatsink at $327.99.
