Bend Studio’s next game is reportedly set to be revealed and released in 2027, according to MP1st’s report citing people familiar with the project. Video Games Chronicle and PlayStation Universe have repeated that claim.
The reporting also claims the game is much further along in development than people may have thought. It will feature co-op play and will not be a live service game, a title updated over time with new content. It will be played from a third-person perspective. It will not be a sequel to Days Gone.
Days Gone was released for the PS4 in April 2019 and remains the most recent game shipped by Sony Bend. The game received mixed reviews and earned a Metacritic score of 71 when it launched. Days Gone reached nearly 7.5 million copies sold as of early 2022, according to details from an Insomniac Games leak.
Sony cancelled a live service game at Bend Studio and another live service title, a God of War game, at Bluepoint Games in January 2025. Significant layoffs followed the cancellation in 2025, with Bloomberg reporting almost a third of Bend Studio’s workforce was reduced. Other sources describe the cut as 30 percent or nearly a third.
In 2021, Sony confirmed Bend Studio was working on a new IP that would build on the deep open-world systems developed with Days Gone. Sony rejected a pitch from Bend Studio for a Days Gone sequel in 2021. Bend Studio released Days Gone Remastered in 2025.

God of War Laufey is set to release on February 16, 2027.

John Garvin, Days Gone’s writer and director who left Bend in 2020, blamed the game’s middling critical reception on technical issues, critics, and reviewers, according to Video Games Chronicle.
Bend Studio distanced itself from John Garvin’s comments, saying it does not share his sentiment and that his views do not reflect the team.
