Capcom executive producer Jun Takeuchi said on Nov. 7, 2026 in the Biohazard 30th Special anniversary publication that Resident Evil 1 was not chosen as the first remake because its stoic horror might not resonate with today’s fans. He put the reasoning plainly: “The reason we didn’t choose Resident Evil 1 as the first remake is because it’s such a stoic game.” GameGPU reported on October 4, 2026 that Takeuchi said the original Resident Evil’s concentrated stoic horror could be too specific and alien for modern gamers, and that management doubted its classic pace would suit younger players used to cinematic scenarios. Takeuchi said the Raccoon City incident is essentially the starting point of the Resident Evil saga, so Capcom felt experiencing it was the best way to introduce the series’ origins.

IGN reported that in a Yahoo Japan interview Takeuchi said Resident Evil’s story expanded with each game instead of being planned upfront, with a ten-year branding concept made while planning Resident Evil 2 Remake. He said, “The series’ story wasn’t planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game.”

Beebom reported that Takeuchi said Capcom develops Resident Evil on two tracks, numbered games and remakes, and that the remake series will someday catch up with the numbered-title era, with Capcom already planning what comes next. He said, “The numbered titles allow players to experience the ongoing story of the series, while the remake series allows them to experience the past.” Beebom reported that original Resident Evil games and remakes follow separate continuities, so the remake series catching up could allow Capcom to remake the entire numbered series within a single continuity.

Player One reported on July 7, 2025, that insider AestheticGamer said Capcom is not currently planning a remake of the original because the company focuses on other roadmap projects, though he believes Capcom will eventually make one.
