Gran Turismo 7 keeps selling well on PlayStation 5 as it approaches its fifth anniversary, according to Push Square. The title’s sustained sales come as the developer releases a free Spec IV update set to arrive in Oct. 2026, which adds new cars, tracks, and modes. Because the game is not on PlayStation Plus, its sales growth comes from direct purchases, and the PlayStation Store has offered regular price cuts on the game, according to Push Square.
Push Square and GamingBolt reported that Yamauchi stated the game’s sales performance caught the team by surprise at launch. The expansion of the player base is driving the addition of new content, and the development team did not foresee the game’s lasting appeal. Yamauchi noted that the user base continues to grow, which is why the team is developing the Spec IV update.
The Spec IV update arrives in two phases. Phase one, launching in Oct. 2026, includes six new automobiles and the Sportsland Sugo track. Phase two, arriving in Dec. 2026, adds six more cars, the Autumn Ring circuit, a Family mode, Shuffle Race, and an Online Drift Trial. Shuffle Race returns with randomly assigned cars for online competition, and the Online Drift Trial allows players to compete in drifting events against opponents worldwide.
The update also introduces a Car Concierge service that allows players to request Specific Used and Legend vehicles. An upgraded Car Viewer lets players display the vehicles they have collected, and Driving Experiences offer manufacturer-specific challenges. The update includes the newest iteration of the Gran Turismo Sophy AI system, a computer-controlled opponent designed to challenge human players, and a Power Pack difficulty level aimed at veteran drivers, along with a new cinematic sequence that introduces the Spec IV content.
The maximum Collector Level has been increased, and a Vintage section showcases cars that are no longer available new. The update will add twelve more cars to the roster. Spec IV is the third major content update, coming after Spec II in November 2023 and Spec III in December 2025.
The update coincides with the approaching 30th anniversary of the first Gran Turismo title. Surveys from April and July 2026 pointed to a Spec IV update in the works, according to GTPlanet. Details were shared at the Gran Turismo World Series event in Singapore on October 3, 2026. The Spec IV update will be provided at no cost to players.
