Key facts

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade requires 90 to 100 gigabytes on Nintendo Switch 2, making it the most gigabyte-hungry game on the platform to date, according to IGN's June 29, 2026 report.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is estimated at 45.8 gigabytes, compared with 13.2 gigabytes for the original Switch release, according to GameRant's July 27, 2026 report citing Nintendo's own numbers.
  • Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind landed on Nintendo Switch 2 at a 45 gigabyte install earlier in October 2026, according to Shattered's October 18, 2026 report.
  • Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has conflicting file size reports: Nintendo's U.S. eShop lists 16 gigabytes, while Nintendo Everything's October 18 roundup lists 9.8 gigabytes on Switch 2, according to Shattered.

Shattered reports that Nintendo’s U.S. eShop lists FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE ahead of its October 22, 2026 release in the United States. The listing reads: “Game file size (estimated) Nintendo Switch: 8.8 GB Nintendo Switch 2: 12.7 GB.”

Shattered reports the same game at 8.6 gigabytes on Switch and 11.9 gigabytes on Switch 2 in the United Kingdom, and 8.7 gigabytes on Switch and 12.6 gigabytes on Switch 2 in Australia. Nintendo does not publish a unified global file size sheet. Each regional eShop publishes its own estimated figure from publisher-submitted build metadata, and gaps can appear when a listing updates in one region before another or when a preload build differs from the day-one patch.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, also set for release on October 22, 2026, lists 16 gigabytes on Nintendo’s U.S. eShop, while Shattered reports Nintendo Everything’s October 18 roundup at 9.8 gigabytes on Switch 2. Neither figure is a rounding error, and Nintendo has not clarified which size is current as of October 18, 2026. The report cites unconfirmed reports that the listed size may have dropped from 16 gigabytes to roughly 9.83 gigabytes.

A player pre-loading both October 22 games needs between 21.5 and nearly 29 gigabytes depending on which Switch Sports Resort figure proves accurate. Shattered’s October 18 report calculates the storage math on top of existing installs.

Shattered reports that Switch 2 versions of cross-generation games routinely run 30 percent to 50 percent larger than original Switch counterparts. Final Fantasy Resonance is the outlet’s example of that consistent ratio.

IGN’s June 29, 2026 report lists Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade at 90 to 100 gigabytes, the largest on the platform to date, alongside Split Fiction at 70 gigabytes, Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 gigabytes, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment at 44 gigabytes. Shattered’s October 18 roundup adds Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind at 45 gigabytes and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves at 30.3 gigabytes.

Bar chart, Nintendo Switch 2 game file sizes. Split Fiction: 70 gigabytes; Cyberpunk 2077: 60 gigabytes; Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 45.8 gigabytes; Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind: 45 gigabytes; Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment: 44 gigabytes; Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves: 30.3 gigabytes.

Shattered reports that Switch 2 microSD Express cards remain pricier and less widely stocked than standard microSD cards for the original Switch. IGN says the officially licensed Samsung microSD Express Card sold for $39 during the 2026 summer sale.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition is estimated at 45.8 gigabytes against 13.2 gigabytes for the original Switch release, according to GameRant’s July 27, 2026 report. The digital edition came out July 30, 2026, with the physical edition following October 1, 2026.

GameRant cautions that file size does not necessarily guarantee anything specific about a game. That July 27 report warns readers not to treat increased download size as an automatic indicator of quality.

Shattered reports that Nintendo has said it has no plans to abandon physical media even as digital adoption climbs, preserving the cartridge option for some upcoming releases. The same report notes a separate fan resource, the Final Fantasy Resonance file size and preload guide, has been tracking regional figures as they appear.
