Sony’s annual report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, filed with the SEC on June 18, 2026, removed a prior commitment to deploy its first-party titles to multiple platforms such as PC, replacing it with nothing, GodisaGeek.com reports. None of the six advertised games has previously come to PC, and none currently has an announced PC release.
The Only on PS5 advertisement features six PlayStation Studios titles: Marvel’s Wolverine, Saros, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Laufey, Astro Bot, and Ghost of Yotei, GodisaGeek.com reports. The video extends Sony’s It Happens on PS5 campaign, which launched in November 2025, and marks the first time the campaign leans on outright exclusivity language.
PC users had expected Ghost of Yōtei to transition to Steam, but Jason Schreier believes the PlayStation exclusive may remain confined to consoles, Notebookcheck reports. PC gamers reacted to Sony’s exclusivity pullback with disappointment and lack of surprise, with some questioning why they should buy a $600 PS5 for only a few games, IGN reports.
After price increases in March, a new PS5 starts at $600 and a PS5 Pro costs $900, IGN reports. Sony also announced PlayStation Plus price rises, citing ongoing market conditions, and the higher hardware cost factors into PC gamer reluctance to buy a console just for Sony exclusives.
Microsoft is reportedly considering an exclusivity policy change to win over hardcore Xbox fans, and exclusive games are the top request on an official Xbox feedback platform, IGN reports. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida suggested in April that Sony would struggle to recoup the huge budgets invested in first-party games without porting them to PC. Yoshida said the PS4 era made bigger budgets feel safer, but the model may no longer be sustainable, and PC releases after a couple of years helped recoup investment and reinvest in new games.
IGN reports Sony previously used a staggered approach, releasing single-player PlayStation games on PC after a period of console exclusivity while publishing live-service games such as Helldivers 2 on PC day one. GodisaGeek.com reports Sony previously released God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part I on PC via Steam, usually a year or more after PS5 launch.
Sony will continue to release select multiplayer and live service games on PC, including Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Push Square and ROCKSTARmedia report. Sony-owned Bungie launched the live-service extraction shooter Marathon across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S simultaneously earlier in 2026, IGN reports. Guerrilla’s Horizon spinoff Hunters Gathering and Haven Studios’ Fairgames are also planned for PC and PS5.
Push Square and ROCKSTARmedia report that sales of Sony’s first-party titles on Steam were allegedly poor, driving the renewed exclusivity focus. Sony made an internal decision in the last year and a bit to focus solely on exclusivity and is slowly beginning to promote that again.
God of War Laufey was revealed in gameplay form at Sony’s June 2026 State of Play alongside early Wolverine footage and has not yet been given a release date, GodisaGeek.com reports.
Push Square imagines Sony will tout the PlayStation Exclusive branding more aggressively next year, beginning with God of War Laufey and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The “Only on PlayStation” slogan was used until shortly after the PS5 debuted and disappeared from Ghost of Tsushima retail covers by 2021, though those games eventually came to Steam, Notebookcheck reports. Gamers spotted a “Game available only on PS5” disclaimer during a video for a 27-inch monitor, alongside updates for the FlexStrike fight stick and Pulse Elevate speakers. Fans observed the same pattern with Horizon Zero Dawn and other PlayStation exclusives, and Sony has since been more cautious about limiting its audience.
