dwproton shipped an update on Oct. 31, 2026 for Steam Deck that moves Proton and its components to the cachyos-11.0-20261015-slr build.
The update restored a patch that addresses NIKKE video playback trouble on umu-launcher, a tool for starting Windows games on Linux. Steam Deck HQ said the problems should resolve, and the release notes call it a re-added patch from the Oct. 31, 2026 build. It also altered the way Arknights: Endfield’s launcher appears, taking away the black bars around the window, and the release notes thank MrLGamer. Each source places the launcher change in the Oct. 31, 2026 release.
Arknight: Endfield’s launcher forces winex11, a Wine graphics driver, when installed through Epic Games. Steam Deck HQ says winex11 is forced only for the launcher in the Epic Games setup.
ProtonPlus, found in the Discover Store when the Steam Deck runs in Desktop Mode, lets players get the Proton layer. Steam Deck HQ described ProtonPlus as the download route and said players can get it through the Discover Store in Desktop Mode on the Steam Deck. The Discover Store is the Steam Deck’s app store, and Desktop Mode opens a desktop-like interface on the handheld.
dwproton addressed a Goddess of Victory: NIKKE ACE error following the game’s Sep. 20, 2026 update, in release #55, and said the fix should also cover other games that get similar updates. That same release moved to Proton Experimental and fixed Aniimo lobby crashes. It involved winewayland and Proton-EM. That release was among NIKKE protonfix updates released before the Oct. 31 video playback fix.
On Jul. 12, 2026, dwproton changed its NIKKE protonfix to also disable steam.exe, saying this should fix forced Steam login on the Faugus Launcher. The change arrived in a release that also brought FSR4.1.1 automation and winepipewire.drv. It was among NIKKE protonfix revisions before the Oct. 31 fixes.
dwproton corrected the NIKKE protonfix so it no longer auto-applies on Steam, doing so on Aug. 4, 2026 in release #39. That release also included a signature workaround for HSR and addressed Netmarble Launcher updates. It also involved Proton-EM, HoYoPlay and CEF launchers. It counted as part of dwproton’s continuing NIKKE compatibility work ahead of the Oct. 31 fixes.
dwproton introduced a custom protonfix for Arknights: Endfield on Jul. 22, 2026, release #36, because loading times suffered from heavy disk writes, and told users to set UMU_ID=umu-endfield %command% if automation failed. That update also reset the default audio driver after Zenless Zone Zero had trouble with the PipeWire driver. It included PROTON_USE_PIPEWIRE=1. It arrived months earlier than the Oct. 31 launcher improvement.
A Steam community guide from Oct. 14, 2026 backs DW-Proton to run Arknights: Endfield on Linux and requires version 11.0-15 or higher. DW-Proton is a version of the Proton compatibility tool. The guide tells players to use Steam’s compatibility tool menu to set DW-Proton instead of ProtonPlus.
The guide says a missing cursor might come from PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and that version 11.0-15 fixed the problem. The post told players to drop the PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 command until a later DW-Proton version solved the cursor problem, and said version 11.0-15 already had that fix. It says GE-Proton will not work, since DW-Proton is the only version that currently runs Arknights: Endfield. GE-Proton is another community version of Proton.
The guide tells players not to reuse an old installation since it may cause Steam dependency issues, and says to use only the Steam version. The post cautioned that using an old installation again might create Steam dependency problems, even though it skips a fresh download.
The post laid out the steps as a numbered procedure and credited Carlos with the tip.
The Oct. 14, 2026 guide says launch options for Arknights: Endfield are not required and the game runs well without them. It calls itself non-definitive and says it will change if future game updates bring Q&As and issues that need attention. The writer calls it guidance that may shift as the game gets updates.
