EA announced in a status update on X that Battlefield 6’s Platoons feature will not arrive in 2026 and has been rescheduled for 2027, after listing the social tool on its April 2026 roadmap, planning its release for the start of December 2026 during Season 5, and telling players as recently as October 21 that it would arrive then.
Platoons lets players create or join groups with as many as 100 members. The planned system includes shared tags, easier partying, join settings, leadership tools for membership management, and XP bonuses for playing together. EA described the XP bonuses as part of the social group foundations for Battlefield 6 earlier in 2026. The feature appeared in Battlefield 3 as MMO-style clans that let players build communities and monitor members across groups bigger than a squad.
EA also delayed the B-81 Cavalry strategic bomber to 2027 because it does not meet internal quality standards. The developer said both the bomber and Platoons are not ready for deployment, and said it remains committed to high-quality player experiences. No exact 2027 release date has been set for either feature. The bomber is conceptually similar to the real B-1B Lancer and poses an enormous balancing challenge, a concern tied to veterans’ memories of its dominant role in Battlefield 4.
The company promised information about a changed 2027 plan following the holiday period. EA made this promise alongside the delay announcement, leaving the eventual timing for Platoons and the B-81 Cavalry unclear until after the holidays.
Season 5 Phase 3, named Frozen Aces, remains scheduled to begin on December 8, 2026. The server browser arrives in that phase on time even though EA delayed Platoons and the B-81 Cavalry, and the delay does not affect the general schedule for upcoming content. EA had initially tied Platoons to the same update window as a server browser and new map updates. Phase 3 will bring Operation High Roller, a Freezeout winter event, map reworks for Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, and new weapons such as the MK1 MOD 8 and Karambit Messer.
EA and Battlefield Studios confirmed continued support for Battlefield 6 through 2027 on July 30, 2026. The confirmation came during a Community Discord Q&A and included Platoons, Server Browser, Proximity Chat, dynamic weather, and new Seasons among content being worked on. Proximity Chat will debut in REDSEC Battle Royale and later come to Multiplayer. Custom Lobbies opened on August 18 with initial support for BR Quads and Conquest.
Battlefield Studios is also looking into dynamic weather and night maps, and said these must fit and align with Battlefield’s identity, along with future collaborations. The studio aims to create large-scale tactical destruction events that alter combat zones while preserving a map’s core identity. Battlefield Studios discussed this as part of future plans during the July 2026 Community Discord Q&A. Commander Mode, rented servers, and Battlefield 4’s traditional Levolution system will not return just yet.

A Top Gun partnership begins in Phase Two of Season 4 starting August 18.
Fan reactions to the delay have ranged from disappointment to disbelief and frustration. Some players said platoon-style tools are basic mechanics from earlier Battlefield games, and others pointed to Platoons’ prominent place in Season 5 artwork as evidence that its arrival appeared close. Others asked why the issue was not caught sooner after the new season launched.
Some community members view holding back unfinished content positively, citing past rough Battlefield releases. This reaction was reported especially regarding the B-81 Cavalry balancing challenge and the importance of not rushing Platoons.
Battlefield 6 opened with strong reviews and player counts but later experienced steep player losses and mixed feedback tied to bugs, missing features, and REDSEC requirements. Season 5 began on October 13th, at the same time as the game’s release on Game Pass, marking its first anniversary. That update followed uncertainty about what content would follow heading into 2027 before Year 2 support was confirmed. Player-count drops and mixed impressions followed because of bugs and missing features.
