EA Sports announced on October 20, 2026 that Fight Night is coming back, posting through a newly created social media account with the message “To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back.” The company provided no platforms, release window, gameplay details, or developer for the new Fight Night game.

The last Fight Night game, Fight Night Champion, released in 2011, leaving the series dormant for nearly 16 years before the 2026 revival tease. Five Fight Night games came out between 2004 and 2011 across platforms, and all five earned Metacritic scores in the mid-to-high 80s.

Fight Night began in 2004 as the successor to EA’s Knockout Kings series, which debuted in the late 1990s. ComicBook.com reported that Fight Night Round 3 and Round 4 were particularly well-received by fans and critics, while Fight Night Champion was still seen as a strong boxing game even if not as highly touted as its predecessor.

Bleacher Report reported that Fight Night followed EA’s Knockout Kings series and remained commercially prominent throughout its five-edition run between 2004 and 2011. Push Square said Fight Night ran during the PS2 and PS3 days, with four entries released between 2004 and 2009 before Fight Night Champion.

After Fight Night Champion, EA shifted its attention to UFC and released five EA Sports UFC titles between 2014 and 2026. UFC 6, the sixth edition, came out earlier in 2026. Fightful reported that EA acquired the UFC license after Fight Night Champion. El-Balad reported that EA spent years building its UFC series using much of the same technology expected in a boxing game, giving the revival clearer production logic.

Video Games Chronicle reported that licensing complications and high athlete likeness fees contributed to EA’s decision to focus on UFC instead of boxing, where it could negotiate one agreement covering all its athletes. Video Games Chronicle and Fightful reported that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua appeared as bonus fighters in EA Sports UFC and are scheduled to fight each other in December in one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights in decades.

About a year ago, EA scrapped initial plans to bring Fight Night back, and Mike Straw of Insider Gaming reported last month that sources said a Fight Night reboot had been canceled. In 2024, Straw had predicted the series would return in 2027 or 2028. Sports Gamers Online reported that VGC saw a company-wide email saying EA Sports paused Fight Night work to focus on a new UFC game that became UFC 5.

Push Square projects that the release date is a few years out, while ComicBook.com describes the game as early in development and says launch is still far off. ComicBook.com also reported that EA leadership approved a new boxing title in early development. ComicBook.com reported that EA Sports is now formally calling the franchise “EA Sports Fight Night.”

Some sources said EA’s sale to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund was completed or underway around October 20, 2026, with PIF leading a group that bought EA.

Saudi Arabia operates boxing promotion Zuffa with UFC president Dana White and has become a major force in staging high-profile boxing fights, according to Video Games Chronicle. Eddie Hearn, Tyson Fury’s promoter, claimed during a 2020 live stream video that he had pitched a Fight Night idea to EA Sports and said the return of EA Sports Fight Night would be huge.

Video Games Chronicle reported that fans and the boxing world have called for Fight Night to return. Undisputed, from Steel City Interactive, was the first licensed boxing game to arrive after Fight Night’s 2011 finale. Bleacher Report reported that EA Sports was likely influenced by the popularity of Undisputed. Other recent boxing games include CREED: Rise to Glory and Undisputed, though no recent title reached Fight Night’s previous heights.

EA Sports had said it would return to college basketball games, then canceled those plans a few months later. ComicBook.com reported that EA Sports received fan praise for rebooting college football and added it as a major sports pillar alongside Madden and FC. Bleacher Report also noted the college football revival.

EA Canada in Vancouver built the original Fight Night and the most recent two entries, while the now-shuttered EA Chicago developed Fight Night Round 2 and Round 3. IGN said its own reviewer rated UFC 6 highly when it arrived earlier in 2026, at a time when EA was shifting resources away from Fight Night toward UFC.
