Mouthwashing launches on PlayStation 5 on October 29, 2026, marking its console debut two days before Halloween. The same October 29, 2026 release date also covers PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through the Microsoft Store.
Push Square, Noisy Pixel, IGN, and Gematsu all report the October 29, 2026 PlayStation 5 launch date. Noisy Pixel and Gematsu listed the full console slate from Critical Reflex and Wrong Organ, while HappyGamer separately covered the Xbox launch including Game Pass.
Fangamer will offer physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Push Square said physical copies would be available via Fangamer with sign-up notifications, and Gematsu confirmed the same retail partnership for both platforms.
Wrong Organ and Critical Reflex announced the console versions together. The game was first announced for PS5 in January 2025, though Push Square noted it would not arrive until October 2026. TheSixthAxis reported a planned 2025 console release in February 2025. The console release news came from Xbox Wire during the ID@Xbox and IGN Showcase on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, a showcase that also featured two other Critical Reflex games.
Mouthwashing first launched on PC via Steam on September 26, 2024. Noisy Pixel and Gematsu gave the Steam debut date, and HappyGamer confirmed the same launch timing.
The Steam price is currently $7.79 on sale, down 40 percent from $12.99. HappyGamer provided the sale price in its description of the game’s Steam page, noting the discount applies to the PC version.
The PC version holds an 88 aggregate rating on Metacritic, which Push Square cited while calling the game critically acclaimed after its PC launch. Steam user reviews are Overwhelmingly Positive across 39,133 reviews as of October 20, 2026, a tally HappyGamer reported as part of its coverage of the Xbox console launch. The game won Best Narrative and Players’ Choice at the Horror Game Awards, which HappyGamer cited as evidence that the game’s story connected with players.

Steam reviewer DBABEN said “This is just an interactive story, not really a game.” The review sits among the 39,133 Steam user reviews that form the Overwhelmingly Positive tally.
Xbox says Mouthwashing has sold more than 800,000 copies since its 2024 launch, a figure HappyGamer attributed to Xbox in its report on the game joining Xbox Game Pass. Other sources cite a lower 500,000-copy milestone. The game passed 500,000 PC sales by February 20, 2025, a milestone TheSixthAxis reported in a February 2025 article alongside a team message calling the figure surreal.
Players follow the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter, including Captain Curly, maimed, limbless, unable to speak, and alive at the crew’s mercy. Push Square quoted the game’s blurb about Curly dooming the crew to a slow death, and Gematsu reproduced the same Steam page description of the injured captain.
IGN’s trailer text names the ship the Tulpar and its five crew members stranded in perpetual sunset with no hope of rescue, while TheSixthAxis called the vessel The Pony Express. HappyGamer describes dwindling supplies and no rescue. The ship will lose power within six months, and food rations will run out even sooner, limits Gematsu’s Steam page overview lists under “Zero Chance of Rescue.”
HappyGamer said the October 29 date is the one to circle for Game Pass subscribers because it falls two days before Halloween. The timing places the console launch just before the holiday.
