Baggy Cat Games confirmed on Nov. 1, 2026 that a sequel to At Dead Of Night is coming very soon and gave no exact release date. The sequel carries the title At Dead Of Night 2: The Great Hugo. Eurogamer, BozokMedia, Headliner.nl and the studio’s own site all use the full title. baggycat.com says it launches soon, and Headliner.nl reports the developer announced it as arriving zeer binnenkort, with more updates expected in the coming weeks.
Kotaku reported on Aug. 13, 2026 that the sequel was first confirmed in March 2023 and that its initial teaser trailer arrived in February 2024. According to Kotaku, BaggyCat’s website confirmed the game in late 2025. Kotaku states the game is due out sometime in 2026. Kotaku describes the game as set in a separate location from the first title, with a different ghost cast and more interactivity per the developer.{
The sequel continues directly from the first game and sends Maya to investigate a large Tudor manor house. The story takes place half a decade, or five years, after the events of At Dead Of Night, and Maya remains haunted by her experiences at Sea View Hotel. Several reports place the new story five years after Sea View Hotel, with Maya still affected by what happened there.
Maya remembers the ghost box she used at Sea View Hotel and left behind when she escaped. After searching auction sites and antique shops, she locates a similar-looking device but cannot make it work. She reaches out to Quinn, an old friend and counsellor who previously helped her understand her supernatural hotel experiences. Quinn identifies the device as the work of an inventor who once lived in a large Tudor manor house near Sea View and warns Maya not to try to get it working; ignoring that counsel, Maya travels to the estate to investigate on her own.{
At Dead Of Night is a horror game that takes place in an old hotel on a remote headland where a group of students book rooms after getting lost. At the hotel the students meet Jimmy Hall, a creepy landlord who invites them to watch his late-night comedy show. When Maya declines his invitation, Jimmy’s rage releases his psychopathic comedy alter-ego Hugo Punch, who takes control. Late one night Maya hears a friend scream, realizes the group is in danger, and tries to rescue them.
To save her friends, Maya must confront and speak with the ghosts of Jimmy’s past and uncover his terrible secret. While exploring, Maya obtains a master key for most hotel rooms and a spirit box as Jimmy roams the corridors with a bat and grows more aggressive with each story revealed.
At Dead Of Night launched on November 19th, 2020, and is sold on Steam for Windows. The 2020 release date and Steam listing come from rictagames.com and the studio site respectively. It blends realistic full-motion video with modern in-game graphics, with almost no boundary between gameplay and cutscenes. rictagames.com emphasizes that the mixture of live-action video and graphics makes the cutscenes feel indistinguishable from play.{
Full-motion video games rose and fell in popularity, with the best-known examples arriving in the 1990s and early 2000s, according to rictagames.com, which frames At Dead Of Night as part of a newer wave.
The original game spread quickly during the pandemic because streamers and creators such as Markiplier, 8-BitRyan, John Wolfe, and DomPlays featured it. Eurogamer, BozokMedia and Headliner.nl credit the pandemic-era streaming coverage for the first game’s rapid rise. Those creators introduced players to Jimmy Hall and his psychopathic comedy alter-ego Hugo Punch.
Baggy Cat also developed Contradiction, a live-action crime drama in which players control Inspector Jenks, a detective investigating a student’s drowning in an English village. The studio’s homepage presents Contradiction as another live-action title, showing its existing work with full-motion video.{
BozokMedia analysis argues that the FMV horror revival responds to streaming audiences’ appetite for narrative scares. It suggests The Great Hugo could set a new benchmark for indie immersive horror.
Eurogamer says it does not yet know how long very soon will be and promises to keep readers updated. The studio site, Eurogamer, BozokMedia and Headliner.nl all report the sequel without a calendar date, using only the developer’s soon phrasing. Because the developer gave only very soon and outlets such as Eurogamer and Headliner.nl say updates are coming, players currently have no fixed launch date to wishlist against. Headliner.nl confirms more updates will arrive in the coming weeks.
