Fortnite Pirate Shop chest prize makes Item Shop free for 14 days

This is a new development in a story we reported earlier: Epic Games launches Fortnite Treasure Hunters One Piece crossover on November 1.

Epic Games added a Pirate Shop prize to Fortnite’s Treasure Hunters mini-season on Nov. 1, 2026, alongside Fortnite’s One Piece crossover, and it lets players claim V-Bucks-priced items in the Item Shop at no cost for 14 days after activation.

Opening Treasure Hunt Chests in Battle Royale is how players earn the Pirate Shop Access token. The chests appear at named points of interest on Crossbones Isle, inside buildings, with no fixed spawn point; some carry skull-and-bones graffiti, and chests holding the token glow golden. A splash on screen tells the player they found access. Back in the lobby, a message awaits, and the player opens the Item Shop, selects Plunder the Item Shop or Plunder the Shop, and presses Activate Now.

Epic Games has not disclosed the official odds of winning the prize, which depends on luck. Dexerto reports that HYPEX, a dataminer, said no one knows whether a cap exists on how frequently the prize can drop. Hotspawn likened its rarity to the Klombo sprite and put the chances at one appearance per few million chest openings.

Players have already located the token at least once. Dexerto reports that snowslept came across the prize in a chest during a standard Solos match after roughly 150 chest openings, while Hotspawn says players have now found it, calling the discovery a golden ticket or hitting the lottery. No established farming tactic exists for the chests, so players should stick to big points of interest for more spawns.

The token shares across a party: if one member finds it, every player in the squad or party receives one. Each recipient receives two activations and starts a personal 14-day timer by pressing activate.

One activation is usable from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15, 2026, and the other from Jan. 1 to Dec. 15, 2027. Once back in the lobby, the activation menu appears, and the clock starts when the player presses activate, letting holders wait for desired items before opening the 2026 period. Anything claimed during the window stays in the locker permanently, but players must claim items before the active window ends.

During an active window, items priced in V-Bucks are free to claim through the Pirate Shop. The token does not cover real-money offers or packs, gifting, Battle Pass levels or rewards, cannot be transferred, and covers one free Sidekick the player does not already own.

Polygon reports that the Battle Pass includes Ace and Robin, and that the opening Item Shop bundle prices Luffy, Nami, and Usopp at 4,000 V-Bucks, about $30, with One Piece skins due later in the season. Shacknews calls the feature one of the largest bonuses Fortnite has ever offered.

Hotspawn reports that Epic added the mechanic secretly with the latest patch and left it out of the advance Fortnite patch notes, so players saw it only after someone found a token in-game. Hotspawn says Epic hid the opportunity to unlock the Item Shop without paying. The outlet projects combined savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars on V-Bucks across all players. That estimate rests on players sharing the token with a full party and on the prize being rare.

Yahoo Tech, citing Destructoid, states players can gain access to the Pirate Shop between November 1 and December 5 throughout the Treasure Hunters season.

According to Polygon, Treasure Hours kick off next Sunday and are rumored to raise the spawn rate of the Pirate Shop Access token. New items arrive weekly in the Item Shop and Adventure menu as part of the mini-season. Treasure Hunt Chest loot changes weekly, with the Solid Gold A$AP Rocky skin offered in Week 1 and the Solid Gold Lil Uzi Vert skin possibly arriving the following week.
