AYN’s showcase video shows the Dragonwing Q8 processor, which the company identifies as the Snapdragon 8 Elite. AYN uploaded a 38-second video on Oct. 19 that revealed the chipset for the first time. The chip is an 8-core processor built from the Snapdragon 8 Elite, with the cellular modem taken out. Inven Global reports the chip is built on a 3nm process with an 8-core Oryon CPU topping out at 4.32GHz and an Adreno 830 GPU that equals the Snapdragon 8 Elite in performance, while PC Guide describes it as a flagship-tier processor. Trusted Reviews says the chip also drops camera processing, while Inven Global says it drops only the cellular modem. AYN first called the Odin 3 a Snapdragon 8 Elite device, then changed its listings to call the chip the Dragonwing Q8. It skips the 8 Gen 3 and moves up two generations at once. Both the Odin 2 and the Odin 2 Portal ran using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which set a pattern of shared silicon for regular and Portal models. Sources: Trusted Reviews, Inven Global

The Odin 3 Portal carries a 9,000mAh battery. It adds 1,000mAh over the 8,000mAh packs used by the standard Odin 3 and by the Odin 2 Portal. At 450g, it is 20g heavier than the 430g Odin 2 Portal and 60g heavier than the 390g, 6-inch Odin 3. AYN pointed to the bigger battery and better cooling, stressing quiet operation from the fan-driven active cooling system. Sources: Notebookcheck, Trusted Reviews, PC Guide, Inven Global

AYN still has not confirmed a price for the Odin 3 Portal. The standard Odin 3 now costs $369, or about £275, following several price hikes since its October 2025 release. Trusted Reviews connects rising memory costs driven by AI data centre demand to higher consumer electronics prices, and says that means the Portal will cost more than the standard Odin 3. AYN has not shared a launch window yet. Display details, memory configurations, and UK availability for the next Portal model also remain unconfirmed. Sources: Trusted Reviews, Inven Global

The screen size of the Odin 3 Portal remains unconfirmed. PC Guide expects the Portal to match the previous model with a 7-inch OLED screen at 1080p and 120Hz. The Odin 2 Portal stepped up to a 7-inch OLED panel, and Inven Global says the earlier model came with a 7-inch AMOLED display while successor screen specifications remain unset. The current Odin 3 includes a 6-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 120Hz refresh. Sources: Trusted Reviews, Inven Global, PC Guide, The Gadgeteer, Geeky Gadgets

The Odin 3 Portal comes with full-size Hall Effect analogue sticks that rely on magnetic sensors to prevent stick drift. Inven Global says the sticks are somewhat bigger than the ones on the earlier model, with textured ridges on the caps, though exact dimensions were not disclosed. Other controls include removable thumbstick caps, rear paddle buttons, and analogue triggers. Sources: Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck, Trusted Reviews, PC Guide, Inven Global

AYN highlights silent ABXY buttons with quieter clicks and a softer tactile feel. Diamond pattern shoulder keys are designed to be anti-slip. Users with larger hands can use ergonomic handle grips, and raised sections carry added non-slip texture for a more secure hold. The non-display area uses AG glass, an anti-glare finish that stays fingerprint-free after prolonged handling. Sources: Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck, Inven Global

Launch colors are White, Black, and a third option called 16 Bit. The White and Black models come with matching buttons, but the 16 Bit version pairs a dark gray D-pad and thumbsticks with purple action buttons in two shades. Roughly a week ahead of the Oct. 19 spec reveal, AYN first showed the handheld’s exterior on Instagram, Discord, and X, using the tagline Flagship Power, Precise Control. The gameplay video emulates Hollow Knight: Silksong, Tomb Raider (2013), and Little Nightmares through GameSir’s GameHub app. It runs PC games via emulation but shows no performance HUD. The missing readouts cover FPS, RAM usage, power draw, and CPU and GPU temperature. AYN also points out the fan noise across different modes. Sources: Notebookcheck

PC Guide says the Portal moves closer to established gaming PC handhelds like Valve’s Steam Deck and ASUS’s ROG Ally series, even though it remains a lightweight Android handheld. The current Odin 3 emulates PlayStation 2 games, many Switch games, and even some PS3 titles. Sources: PC Guide, The Gadgeteer

The Odin 3 began at $299 during crowdfunding before shifting to current retail pricing.
