Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console reaches stores in late October 2026

The Zelda 40th Anniversary special edition Nintendo Switch 2 console reached stores in late October 2026, Nintendo Life reported. Target told some pre-order customers their consoles would not arrive until mid-November 2026, while Walmart canceled pre-orders just before release because the item was out of stock.

Nintendo Life reported that Pocketpair chief executive Takuru Mizobe called the Nintendo Switch 2 a really amazing platform in an interview with VGC, despite ongoing legal disputes with Nintendo. The same report said a Samsung chip process reportedly named 8LPU+ could shrink the Nvidia processor used in the console, which might help in creating a Switch 2 Lite console.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort reached the top of Japan’s sales charts in its first week on the market, moving more than 64,000 units, Nintendo Life reported. The compilation includes 12 minigames, free-roam sports such as skateboarding, and a single-player progression track called Island Crown, Polygon noted.

Polygon updated its list of the best Nintendo Switch 2 games on Oct. 23, 2026, adding Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. The tactical RPG offers more than 100 hours of content and unites the series’ houses in one story. Splatoon Raiders, described as Nintendo’s first complete looter shooter, blends action-RPG elements with a massive endgame.

Polygon also noted that more than a year into the Switch 2’s life, the lineup still lacks a Zelda game or a Mario platformer. Players can access the entire Switch library through backward compatibility on the new hardware. Third-party support includes Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 series and Capcom’s Resident Evil, Onimusha, and Pragmata.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches on Switch 2 on day one in April 2027. Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup at Bellabel Park arrives as a Switch 2 Edition with new playable characters, bosses, badge modifiers, a power-up, remixed challenge levels, and native 4K resolution. Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem releases the same day on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, starring Grace and Leon Kennedy.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons received a major update and an official Switch 2 Edition with hotel and slumber islands, bulk crafting, classic game consoles, Zelda and Lego collaborations, exclusive mouse control, faster load times, and reduced pop-in. Cyberpunk 2077 runs with a stable base game and clear resolution on Switch 2, though Phantom Liberty performance is uneven, and it supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls in tabletop or docked mode.
