Epic Games disclosed the Pirate Shop Token’s drop rate after roughly one week of Treasure Hunters mini-season backlash, with Softonic dating the event-page update to November 7, 2026, and Beebom dating the Fortnite Status post to November 8, 2026.

The Pirate Shop Token, listed as Pirate Shop Access, has a 1 in 137,500 chance of appearing from a Treasure Hunt Chest in a normal match, Epic said. The rate covers ordinary match play outside scheduled Treasure Hours windows. During those windows, Epic boosts the Pirate Shop Access rate by 1.5x, the Weekly Gold Outfit rate by 7.5x, and the Weekly Vehicle & Decal rate by 10x, and Epic cautioned that future events could offer even higher boosts for the rarest rewards. Epic shared the odds through its Fortnite Status social account and its event page during the Treasure Hunters mini-season.

Epic released the complete Treasure Hunt Chest drop-rate table, giving players their first official look at every chest reward rarity for the season. The complete table appeared on Epic’s event page and in the Fortnite Status post. Weekly Gold Outfit sits at 1 in 1,562,500, Pirate Shop Access at 1 in 137,500, Weekly Vehicle & Decal at 1 in 7,813, Weekly Pickaxe or Back bling at 1 in 568, Weekly Jam Track at 1 in 391, Weekly Loading Screen at 1 in 272, and Gizmo (any) at 1 in 127.

Epic said base treasure drop rates have remained constant since the season launched and change only during Treasure Hours, not throughout the rest of the day. Players cannot receive the same treasure twice from chests, with Gizmos as the sole exception, a rule Epic explained as part of its breakdown of how Treasure Hunt Chest rewards function.

The Treasure Hunters mini-season launched on November 1, 2026, and overhauled Fortnite’s Item Shop by adding a rare pickup that grants free access to shop cosmetics. Epic kept the treasure drop rates private until after criticism over hidden rarity and fear of missing out spread, making the secret odds especially significant for hunters of the item. Players complained on social media and forums that Epic pushed them to grind chests without revealing the actual odds, with some users explicitly asking the Federal Trade Commission to intervene.

Before the official disclosure, community estimates of the drop rate diverged widely, with some players suggesting roughly 1 in 7,000 chests and broader estimates around 1 in 700,000. Dataminer Blortzen calculated a figure closer to 1 in 2,000. Epic has not independently confirmed claims that it uses a server-side system called Clover to change treasure drop rates without exposing the numbers in game files. Leakers and dataminers have speculated that a live backend service handles reward rolls when chests are opened, which would explain why fixed percentages cannot be found in client files.

A Pirate Shop Token allows two redemptions, the first before December 15, 2026, and the second before December 15, 2027, each granting a 14-day window when V-Bucks items are free; real-money items and gifts do not qualify. If one member of a party finds the token, Epic awards it to everyone in that party, and the party-wide reward helped create a secondary market where players pay others to help them find the token.

Accounts claiming to hold a Pirate Shop Token have appeared on eBay with asking prices as high as $10,000, alongside mod tools that promise to automate the treasure hunt. Epic said these listings are fraudulent and noted that automation tools and account sales break its rules, which can result in permanent account bans.

Some players welcomed the transparency after Epic published the drop-rate table, mixing relief with criticism that the odds had remained hidden during the first week of the mini-season. “Thank you, this is what we wanted,” @StableRonaldo said. M1das_OW2 argued it should not have taken a week. One disgruntled player called for a permanent Fortnite boycott, saying casual players received the Pirate Shop Access Token immediately while longtime players with more than 3,000 chests received nothing, and the player framed the situation as unequal treatment and encouraged others to boycott if they did not obtain the token.

TweakTown reported that Fortnite’s Battle Royale player count had fallen to an all-time low of 350K six months earlier. The outlet suggested the rare token could serve as a lure to bring lapsed players back into the game amid the decline.
