FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive built around multiplayer-only matches. ComicBook.com described the player-versus-player-versus-environment battles as matches where competitors face off against each other and dangerous foes as Bloodsworn to be the last one standing, with up to eight players joining a match. FromSoftware offered an apology to players awaiting the release and expressed thanks for their patience and support.
FromSoftware said the extra time will let the team make final changes to game rules and balancing. The studio pointed to combat, strategic depth, and how players express themselves as areas for improvement. The game is in its final adjustment phase, the studio said, and FromSoftware will announce a release date once it sets one.
ComicBook.com said FromSoftware first revealed The Duskbloods in April 2025, scheduling its arrival for some point during 2026. The studio shared little about the game as 2026 drew to a close and never confirmed a specific launch date. ComicBook.com said many players feared a delay after the reveal produced no release date.
In August 2026, FromSoftware conducted a closed network test for its Switch 2 game. IGN said server problems stopped the test after day one by preventing players from logging in. Beebom said critics and players reacted overwhelmingly well to the earlier test. FandomWire called the August test divisive and said some participants were not convinced by how the game looked at the time.
ComicBook.com called The Duskbloods one of the major Nintendo Switch 2 releases coming in 2026, naming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake as another November title. IGN said fans were ready for a slip once the September 2026 Nintendo Direct passed without the game. ComicBook.com said the slip would disappoint fans eager for player-versus-player action.
Nintendo’s social channels in Germany, France, and Italy shared FromSoftware’s announcement and listed 2027 as the new release date.
Dusk Battles unfold in four phases, with eight Bloodsworn chasing Virtue across different maps. Lowanro City, described as a gothic Victorian metropolis, appeared in the test. Virtue comes from beating bosses called Trespassers or winning player-versus-player bouts at Ritual Sites. Bouts happen apart from exploration, so players do not have to watch their backs constantly; TheGamer said surviving the Culling requires gathering more Virtue than rivals, with no set minimum.
In each phase, players can call on NPCs named Kin for help in combat. The last phase becomes a free-for-all among the top three players at the Moon Blood Bestowal. Beebom said the game includes classes and allows co-op play. TheGamer said Kin summoning fits into the Dusk Battle layout shown during the preview.

FromSoftware has not set a specific day for the game and is offering only a 2027 window. Beebom said the game should arrive in early 2027 because it has reached the final development stage. That outlook belongs to Beebom and is not a confirmed FromSoftware date. FandomWire said FromSoftware did not name even a rough 2027 timeframe, so the game might arrive early in the year or much later, and told fans to treat 2027 as the sole confirmed timeframe until more details arrive.
FandomWire said leaving 2026 behind avoids a head-on clash with some of the year’s largest releases, such as GTA 6. Beebom said GTA 6 does not seem to be the reason for the delay.
FandomWire said fans reacted well to the news, quoting one fan who preferred a good product over a rushed release. Some fans had expected the slip after FromSoftware waited so long to confirm anything. Outlets carried the full statement, which came from The Duskbloods’ X account.
FandomWire said nothing indicates that FromSoftware or Nintendo plans to bring the game to PS5, Xbox, or PC. It remains exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.
IGN said hopes are high that The Duskbloods can match FromSoftware’s earlier success on Switch 2, pointing to Elden Ring from 2022 as a masterpiece. IGN also cited FromSoftware’s influential work over the past 20 years. That catalog includes Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
Kaitlyn Peterson of TheGamer called The Duskbloods the Bloodborne successor fans had hoped for and compared its movement to Sekiro. TheGamer said the closed test offered real insight into the player-versus-player-versus-environment experience. TheGamer compared the bout setup to fight clubs from older Souls games.
ComicBook.com said the game most closely resembles Elden Ring Nightreign while still standing apart from FromSoftware’s earlier work. The outlet called the delay unsurprising because of the multiplayer focus and the absence of earlier release details.
