FromSoftware said on Oct. 29, 2026 that The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, is shifting from its 2026 launch window to an unspecified time in 2027. The game originally targeted release by the end of 2026.
The studio shared the news on its official social media channels that same day. FromSoftware said the game is in the final adjustment stage, which is why the launch window is moving to 2027. The developer apologized to players waiting for the release and thanked them for their patience and support.
The studio said feedback from the August test pointed to strong interest in combat, strategy and player expression, and that is why it wants more time to adjust game rules and balance. Eurogamer said the first network test session ended abruptly after major connectivity issues. The August closed network test ended early after its first day because server issues stopped players from logging in. Later sessions saw the connectivity issues ironed out.
The Duskbloods is a player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) multiplayer game built around matches. As many as eight players take control of characters called Bloodsworn and fight for victory points known as Virtue, and there are multiple ways to win. It features multiple classes and supports co-op. The multiplayer-only approach marks a departure from FromSoftware’s traditional solo-focused design.
Eurogamer characterized the title as a blend of Bloodborne, Sekiro and Dark Souls with jetpacks and dinosaurs added. Eurogamer said Nintendo publishes the game and FromSoft develops it. FromSoftware said there is no sign of a port to PS5, Xbox, or PC, so the game remains exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.
Geek Culture called the title one of the biggest surprises from the prior year’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, noting that the game is exclusive to the console. Geek Culture said the game is FromSoftware’s first new release since Elden Ring Nightreign, which the outlet called a spin-off of the action role-playing game with roguelike elements.
IGN called Elden Ring a 2022 masterpiece and said fans are eager to see FromSoftware recreate that magic on Switch 2. The Duskbloods did not appear in the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, which led fans to expect a delay.
Word that The Duskbloods might arrive in September came and went without ceremony, leaving many consumers unsure whether it would hit its vague 2026 window. Beebom noted that FromSoftware remained dead silent about the release date as the year neared its end, making the postponement somewhat expected.
FromSoftware has not announced an exact release date for 2027 or even a rough window, leaving the timing open from early in the year to much later. Wccftech said that because FromSoftware has set no new date, Miyazaki’s first game after Elden Ring might not land in January or February 2027. Wccftech suggested a release starting in March could work better because games arrive early in 2027 and major titles such as Final Fantasy VII Revelation are more spread out.
Fans have largely welcomed the delay. “Better to put out a good product than to rush it,” said Big J (@BigJOneThousand). FandomWire reported that many fans anticipated the 2027 move because the developer revealed the title late in the year, and many had already assumed a 2027 push was coming.
The network test drew mixed reception. Beebom said critics and players reacted overwhelmingly well to a closed network test held earlier in the year. FandomWire described the August test as divisive, with some participants unconvinced by the game’s current state. More people applied to the closed network test for The Duskbloods than applied for Elden Ring Nightreign, despite The Duskbloods launching only on Switch 2.
Eurogamer called the figure impressive given the game’s single-platform release.
The shift to 2027 means The Duskbloods does not go head-to-head with Grand Theft Auto VI, which launches on Nov. 19. Beebom said the postponement does not seem tied to the massive GTA 6 release. Wccftech reported that data-mining earlier this week turned up some details from the beta client’s files, though nothing major turned up.
