On October 27, 2026, Minecraft came to Nintendo Switch 2 with upgraded visuals and an updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, per Beebom, Nintendo Everything and GoNintendo.

Beebom reports that Switch 2 players get Vibrant Visuals as the default mode, with enhanced lighting and improved shadows and a greater render distance, which the outlet says makes landscapes look richer, so players can look farther across biomes and builds. The upgraded visuals are unavailable in split-screen mode on Switch 2. Beebom and GoNintendo say Switch 2 supports Marketplace content made for Vibrant Visuals, while Nintendo Everything frames cross-platform play and Realms Plus as multiplayer options.

The updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack arrives on Switch 2 with a Mario-themed world running Vibrant Visuals, 40 player skins drawn from the Super Mario series and 15 music tracks, per Nintendo Everything, Gamereactor and GoNintendo. GoNintendo calls the pack a Nintendo exclusive refreshed for the Switch 2’s visual upgrade, and Nintendo Everything includes the pack in the Switch 2 edition. Every digital edition includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, GoNintendo reports, and the Deluxe Collection and Ultimate Collection add further content and Minecoins.

Beebom lists three digital editions of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2: Standard Edition costs $29.99, Deluxe Edition costs $39.99 and Ultimate Edition costs $49.99. The Deluxe Edition adds extra add-ons, exclusive Character Creator items and 700 Minecoins. Ultimate Edition adds more content and add-ons along with five exclusive Character Creator items and 1000 Minecoins.

Bar chart, Minecraft Switch 2 digital edition prices. Standard: $29.99; Deluxe: $39.99; Ultimate: $49.99.

Beebom says anyone with a digital copy of Minecraft on the original Switch can get a free Standard Edition upgrade for Switch 2 by January 31, 2027. GoNintendo sets the upgrade window from 9AM PT October 27, 2026 and 9AM PT January 31, 2027, and the offer covers most regions. GoNintendo adds that the Deluxe Collection and Ultimate Collection are discounted through the Nintendo eShop only.

People who bought Minecraft on a physical Switch cartridge cannot get the free Switch 2 upgrade and must buy the new edition at full price, per Beebom, Gamereactor, GameLuster and TechJuice. They frame it as a time-limited offer with a hard deadline instead of a lasting entitlement for players who already own the game.

Gamereactor and GameLuster say Minecraft’s native Switch 2 edition is the first native appearance of the game on Nintendo’s current hardware, and that Nintendo’s newest console gets a top-selling game during its first year. GameLuster describes current-gen Minecraft with its own visual upgrade as a heavy hitter for new Switch 2 buyers shopping alongside first-party releases. Beebom says the launch offers upgraded visuals and a refreshed world, and welcomes more fans into the community of crafters and builders.

Gamereactor, GameLuster and TechJuice date Minecraft’s full release to November 18, 2011. The outlets call the game nearly 15 years old and say it still gets major new content drops. Mojang plans an Ice Caves biome in a 2026 game drop, and The Sift, a new dimension for 2027 that would be the first in 14 years, per Gamereactor, GameLuster and TechJuice. GameLuster positions the Switch 2 launch inside this busy stretch of Minecraft updates.

On October 26, 2026, GameLuster said Mojang, Nintendo and Microsoft had not revealed the Switch 2 edition themselves, per GameLuster. Gamereactor notes that neither Mojang nor Nintendo confirmed the October 27 date or the upgrade terms themselves. Beebom reports more than two months of advance notice for Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch 2 launch. The GameLuster report said Minecraft might reach Switch 2 the next day if that date held up, ahead of later launch confirmations.
