Blizzard opens the Diablo 4 Season 16 public test realm on PC on Tuesday, October 27 at 10 a.m. PT, with patch 3.3.0 running through Tuesday, November 3 at the same time. The PTR is available on PC only and previews base-game changes across both Eternal and Seasonal Realms before the next season launches.
Blizzard overhauled the endgame War Plans system for Season 16 by adding War Plan Tactics, a meta-progression system available in both Seasonal and Eternal leagues. Players earn points from completed endgame activities and spend them on a node tree that changes the content and rewards offered in future War Plans, steering the endgame loop toward preferred activities rather than accepting a fixed rotation. Players cannot pick the exact list of five War Plan activities; they instead increase the likelihood of preferred activities and rewards to tailor War Plans, according to mmoexp.com.
Activity nodes for Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and The Pit accept up to three points each, increasing the odds those activities appear in offered War Plans. Spending at least one point in Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons unlocks a choice that increases the frequency of Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons. Reward nodes accept up to three points each to improve drop odds for armor, weapons, jewelry, talisman items, Obducite, salvage, gems, Horadric Cube materials, Gold, and activity keys.
Tyrael’s Boons is a Season 16 seasonal War Plans tree that increases seasonal reputation and currency, reduces certain crafting costs, and alters season-specific mechanics. It offers up to 132 points, enough to choose up to 4 of 6 available selections across four paths: Curios Addition, Merchant of Mystery, Scent of Gold, and Trash for Treasure. The tree does not replace Seasonal Blessings, which instead become a static set of the same five blessings every season. All Seasonal players can access Tyrael’s Boons without owning the Lord of Hatred expansion.
The four paths reshape different parts of the player economy. Curios Addition modifies the Purveyor of Curiosities to raise double-item chances, offer new item types or higher-quality items, and can make the Purveyor far more expensive to increase Ancestral item odds. Merchant of Mystery adds a Torment-difficulty merchant selling caches for Forgotten Souls, with options to buy caches using Runes or Gems and to increase Ancestral Cache amount and quality. Scent of Gold increases gold and experience gains, Horadric Cube materials and Gem Fragments found, monster Gold and Gem drops, and Legendary drop chances.
Trash for Treasure reduces Alchemist transmuting costs, improves Forgotten Soul chances, adds Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration, lets monsters drop more Obducite and Salvage, grants a Scroll of Restoration chance when salvaging Ancestral Items, and opens the Greater Temper recipe.
The Greater Temper recipe upgrades a tempered affix to a greater affix using 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite, helping endgame players temper gear without relying entirely on random drops. Respecing points in Tyrael’s Boons costs five million gold per point, but a new currency called Marks of Wisdom, earned by turning in completed War Plans, can instead be spent to respec War Plans Tactics and activity trees. The PTR caps Marks of Wisdom at 20, a limit intended only for testing. Mmoexp.com explains that the currency cap prevents unlimited respecs even late into a season, when players accumulate effectively infinite gold.
The Corrupted Reaper and the Fractured Reaper appear together in a combined endgame boss encounter, with synergistic abilities and powerful loot rewards. Blizzard described the pair as two eldritch powerhouses whose combined abilities can annihilate all but the most powerful challengers. Outside the seasonal systems, patch 3.3.0 changes Helltides so they open at the hour in base-game zones and at the half-hour in expansion zones, ending the old five-minute gap between events while Aberrant Cinders carry over between events instead of resetting. Mounts have a faster baseline speed, gain less from spurring, and reach only a slightly higher maximum speed overall.
Balance changes span all eight classes and remain PTR values subject to change, including Druid tag stacking, Paladin Aura Potency, Sorcerer Firewall, Spiritborn Jassin Shell, and Warlock visual effects. A developer said, “We want to reduce Druid’s ability to stack tags and their reliance on them.” DiabloBytes reports that Barbarian Double Swing buffs may revive melee builds, while Druid Spirit Boons and Sorcerer Incinerate changes require testing. Area damage-over-time effects are now affected by DoT Duration bonuses such as Shattered Vow, and the Poison Enchanted affix description now states that damage increases the longer a player remains in the affected area.
The PTR includes testing tools to help players evaluate the new systems quickly. Blizzard’s official PTR post names vendor Mrak as available throughout the test realm, while a separate testing NPC can max out character level and Paragon rank and provide Gold, crafting materials, and equipment. PTR Boosts include unlocking and maxing War Plans, which drops three Marks of El’druin and twenty Marks of Wisdom, along with options to set level to 70, unlock all waypoints, and set Paragon to level 200. Players should create a new test character to join the PTR and use a Seasonal character for Seasonal testing.
Game Pass PC and Ultimate players can access the PTR by opening Battle.net through the Xbox App and then continuing through Battle.net.
The 3.3.0 PTR previews Season 16 changes but does not include everything planned for the season because Blizzard wants the PTR focused on testing new features. Blizzard named reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities as Season 16 focus areas but did not detail those changes in the PTR preview. Blizzard intends to carry some Season 15 features into Season 16, has not specified which ones, will exclude them from the PTR, and will share more details next week. PTR content is subject to change before Season 16 launches.
Kotaku reports that Season 15, the Season of Hell’s Legacy, was the centerpiece of Blizzard’s 30th Anniversary celebration and was delayed on September 15, 2026 after login errors including codes 3000008 and 3000006. The season permanently adds nine new Legacy Uniques based on fabled relics of the past, including Messerschmidt’s Reaver, the Stone of Jordan, and Henri’s Perquisition. Blizzard describes Season 15 as a rousing success, though a player reported that the Rebirth feature let them keep gold and Paragon Board unlocks from the previous season despite the intended reset.
Mmoexp.com notes that Season 16 does not match Season 15’s scale and, unlike Season 15, there is no hidden surprise content coming. Blizzard says player feedback on the PTR is vital and will inform balance and bug fixes before Season 16 goes live. DiabloBytes reports that Blizzard has not yet announced the official launch date for Diablo 4 Season 16.
