Rockstar Games confirmed that digital preloading for Grand Theft Auto 6 begins November 10, 2026, ahead of the November 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Eurogamer attributed the date to Rockstar’s official website, while ComicBook.com described the timing as coming from a new press release, and Video Games Chronicle published Rockstar’s own social post linking the preload to the November 19 launch. The reports appeared on November 3, 2026.
Digital preloading lets players download the game before its release so it’s ready to play when it unlocks. PlayStation 5 players can start the download at midnight in their local time zone on November 10, 2026. Because the unlock follows each time zone, New Zealand players will gain access before players in other regions.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S players can begin at 12am GMT on November 10, which equals 4pm PT and 7pm ET on November 9, 2026. Eurogamer listed 1am CEST, 9am JST and 8am CST (Beijing) on November 10 for the Xbox start. Eurogamer listed Pacific, Eastern, Central European, Japan and Beijing equivalents spanning November 9 and 10. {
The pre-load file requires up to 212 gigabytes of free console storage space, depending on platform. Rockstar advised players to begin clearing storage space on their consoles ahead of the 212-gigabyte download. ComicBook.com said users should begin clearing space right away because of the file’s scale. Eurogamer said players needed 212 gigabytes free. {
Players must pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6 on the PlayStation Store or Xbox store to preload digitally. Eurogamer said the Rockstar support site has step-by-step preloading instructions for both console families. Rockstar’s own post reminded players there was still time to pre-order.
Physical code-in-box editions will appear at retailers starting November 12, 2026, and are physical packages that contain only a digital download code for the game. Rockstar said early physical code-in-box sales let all players jump into Grand Theft Auto 6 at once and help prevent major leaks ahead of launch. ComicBook.com explained that early retail availability lets physical buyers download ahead of launch. KitGuru described the game as less than three weeks away on November 3, 2026. {
On launch day, November 19, 2026, Rockstar will offer a free digital poster and Leonida map as printable files from its official website. Video Games Chronicle said the digital poster and map would be free on release day from Rockstar’s website. A physical double-sided poster costs $0.99 or is free with any Rockstar Store purchase shortly after launch. KitGuru said physical poster versions would follow through the Rockstar Store.
At launch the game will be available only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version expected to arrive later, potentially in early 2027. Rockstar’s own post said, “Grand Theft Auto VI pre-load begins on November 10,” and tied the pre-load start to the November 19 launch date. {
Before Rockstar’s confirmation, Khel Now reported on October 28, 2026, that preloading would start November 12, 2026. The outlet estimated the PlayStation 5 download at around 210 gigabytes using PlayStation Game Size data and said the Xbox download would be pretty similar at around 210 gigabytes. Khel Now also expected the Xbox file to be over 200 gigabytes and said Rockstar had not confirmed the Xbox download size, and described Grand Theft Auto 6 as the largest entry in the series for Sony’s console. Rockstar’s November 3 confirmation moved the start to November 10 and set the requirement at up to 212 gigabytes of free space.
ComicBook.com reported before Rockstar’s confirmation that the Grand Theft Auto 6 download size was roughly 210 gigabytes in total. Khel Now said review codes had already gone to media outlets and selected content creators, with reviews expected on November 18, 2026. {
