TAITO Corporation announced TAITO Milestones 5 for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 29, 2026, as the fifth volume in its retro game preservation series. The collection is scheduled to launch in Japan on Jan. 28, 2027 with physical and digital editions priced at ¥5,720, tax included. TAITO confirmed the price through its official website alongside the announcement trailer. The Jan. 28, 2027 date is confirmed by three sources with detailed official information, while the Mar. 28, 2027 date appears only in a brief announcement summary.
TAITO Milestones 4 launched for Nintendo Switch in March 2026, and TAITO Milestones 5 follows as the next entry in the series. The compilation features 10 classic arcade titles originally released between 1978 and 1990. The release covers TAITO’s arcade output across a dozen years, continues the publisher’s effort to bring its arcade catalogue to modern Nintendo consoles, and continues the pattern of previous Milestones collections. The lineup spans shooters, block-breakers, boxing, and soccer.
Space Invaders, one of TAITO’s most iconic titles, was originally released in 1978 and became a social phenomenon following its original release. It is included in the collection. Marine Date, a 1981 arcade title, is also included and will support USB mouse controls on Nintendo Switch.
Land Sea Air Squad, released in 1986, is listed as L.S.A Squad in some coverage and as Land Sea Air Squad in official TAITO materials. Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH, released in 1987, is included with expanded gameplay featuring branching stage pathways, morphing craft abilities, and additional items. Extermination, released in 1987, is included in the collection and is one of the ten titles spanning TAITO’s arcade catalogue from the late 1980s.
Final Blow, a 1989 boxing game featuring five heavyweight fighters, is included in the collection and adds a sports title to the lineup, representing coverage of genres beyond shooters and block-breaking games. Crime City, released in 1989, follows detectives Tony and Raymond from Chase H.Q. and combines action shooting with other arcade sequences. Hat Trick Hero, released in 1990, offers international soccer matches. The soccer title further diversifies the genre coverage beyond shooters and block-breakers.
The three-screen version of Sagaia, the overseas version of Darius II, released in 1989 and receives its first home console conversion in TAITO Milestones 5. The conversion preserves the original triple-monitor 28:9 panoramic arcade configuration. Both Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH and Marine Date support USB mouse controls on Nintendo Switch. TAITO confirmed that both titles will support USB mouse controls on the platform, adapting the original paddle-based gameplay to modern input methods.
The collection restores original arcade ROM revisions, pairs them with low-latency controller response, adds custom scanlines, and scales multi-screen displays. The physical cartridge contains all ROM assets, sound driver emulations, and visual filter libraries. Because the included titles historically render attract sequences and menu prompts in English, non-Japanese speakers face no language barriers during gameplay. The physical Japanese cartridge will run on any Nintendo Switch console worldwide because Nintendo Switch hardware imposes no regional locking on physical software.
Hamster Corporation, the developer behind the Arcade Archives series, is assisting with TAITO Milestones 5 development. A TAITO Corporation Development Division spokesperson stated on Oct. 28, 2026 at the Tokyo Product Showcase that the goal of the TAITO Milestones series remains the flawless archival of the publisher’s foundational coin-operated history. The spokesperson’s remarks emphasized faithfully restoring non-standard hardware formats for modern home platforms.
TAITO has detailed retailer-specific physical edition bonuses in Japan, available at participating retailers. The bonuses include a special soundtrack CD or a Space Invaders-themed storage case. The storage case holds all five TAITO Milestones releases. Different decorative designs appear depending on the retailer.
The Japanese retail price of ¥5,720 converts to approximately RM163. Landed import copies through Southeast Asian retailers typically settle between RM189 and RM219 after freight and distribution margins. TAITO confirmed the price through its official website alongside the announcement trailer. TAITO has not announced a separate Western release date or regional pricing as of the October 2026 announcement.
